    dwarf lionfish / corals

I'm not sure I agree with the biowheel, though. Those things potentially INCREASE the amount of nitrates in the system. In my 90 gal I will have about 160 lb of lr - and another 40 or so in my sump. That should keep the nitrate level down to near zero.

    Brain coral

I'm not sure about brains, but some corals expel a portion of their zooxanthellae periodically, as well. It often appears as a brown, stingy snot-like substance. Yum.

What is the minimum light requirements for anemone?

That's a pretty blunt conclusion, isn't it? "Complete nonsense"? I'd like to hear more about the specifics of this, if you could. I mean, you are asking all of the readers of this board to substitute your judgement for his - maybe a few specifics would help.

I took the bio balls out of my aquarium what should I put in

Your pH is too low. It shoudl be around 8.3. ALso, at this point I'd be less concerned with nitrates and more attentive to ammonia and nitrites. Agreed.

Your livestock will eventually benefit my being cared for by someone who obviously cares a lot about doing things properly. Best of luck to you. Send me a PM if you can to let me know how things are settling in. A few pics, too!! John

I took the bio balls out of my aquarium what should I put in

Everyone learns something the hard way. Don't make any other big changes, though. Monitor your ammonia and nitrite levels. Do water changes of no more than 25% of the volume (50% in a dire emergency) at a time to keep them down. Try to match the new water as close as you can to temp and SG...

I took the bio balls out of my aquarium what should I put in

Leave them. Frequent changes can be an even worse problem. Monitor your cycle carefully, and replace the bioballs slowly over a period of weeks. You should be fine as long as you don't let the ammonia and nitrites get out of control. Test them daily, and do partial water changes if...

I took the bio balls out of my aquarium what should I put in

Did you let them dry out or wash them with tap water in the meantime? If so, you might not want to add them back. How long have they been out? TO be safe, monitor your ammonia and nitrite and be prepared to do water chages or detoxify with Prime if levels rise.

I took the bio balls out of my aquarium what should I put in

Mixed sizes would be fine ... like gravel. If you already removed all of the BB, you're likely to cycle anyway, since you removed you biofilter. A good idea is to add some LR along with the BB, then add more each time you remove a fraction of the BB, eventually replacing it all. Nothing...

Replace the rough equivalent of your bioballs.

Live rock rubble is a great addition to a filter once you ditch the bioballs.

    Pumping xenia

Depends what you mean by strong. My idea of strong current would never allow Xenia to stand upright. Mine sways in the turbulence formed by two PHs aimed at each other and it pumps like crazy. To me, that's "moderate" current.

    Quick question about cycling

You'll hear a lot of anecdotes about short cycle time. Typically, it takes longer than this, because no one is going to post to tell about a "typical" cycle of perhaps a month. There are so many variables, that the only way to know how long your cycle will take is to wait and see. Personally...
