Do fish just become finicky eaters?

Stop feeding the flakes and bloodworms, sounds like he may like them more and has decided to be stubborn with the pellets since he knows he'll eventually get the flakes and bloodworms, which aren't nearly as nutritious. Sent from my LG-E980 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Need Help w/ Ich

I've never kept any shrimp species myself so I can't say if aquarium salt will be safe with them but you'd want to add 1 tbsp of aquarium salt per 5 gallons of water and slowly turn the temp up to 86-88 degrees (86 minimum), i wouldn't let the temp increase more than 2 degrees per hour though so...

    Jaguar cichlid tank size?

U could probably get by with a 75g for a single female, but as mentioned above... a 6ft 125g would be better for a male. My 11" male Jag is by himself in a 125g and he patrols all 6ft of the tank constantly all day, can't imagine him being in a 4 ft tank at this point. Sent from my LG-E980...

Possible to sex this oscar and Jag?

Everything about that Jag looks male except the overall body shape. If that particular fish just ate a big meal, I'd say Male. If not, and its belly is naturally round like that, i might lean female. Be better off venting that one Sent from my LG-E980 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    90 Gallon Canister Filter Ideas

    Just wondering

My 10.5" male jag fills up my 125g tank nicely. If i walk by the tank, he'll come up and wait for food. If anyone else walks by, he swims quickly to hide behind his driftwood. Very intelligent fish, that'd get my vote. Sent from my LG-E980 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

One or two minutes of feeding time?

+1... this is how i feed my central american cichlids. More harm can be done over feeding than under feeding. As long as all your fish are getting food, you're good. Sent from my LG-E980 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Best Foods

Dainichi is garbage, only idea he really used from them is the use of clay. And as far as copying NLS goes, shouldn't we applaud fish food manufacturers for trying to use alot of the same quality ingredients that NLS uses? I think there's more than enough manufacturers out there going the cheap...

    Best Foods

+1 to this... NLS thera a has been my staple pellet for my CA cichlids for a while and just recently got some Northfin cichlid formula to try and they love that stuff also. NLS still should be considered +1 though just because of how long they've been around. But as far as ingredients go...

    Fish ID

#1 appears to be a Blue Acara, very closely related to the Green Terror. The rest are all African cichlids, no clue on specific species. Sent from my LG-E980 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Changing media in Aquaclear filter

No, there's no reason to have anything above the water line in the aquaclear filters as it won't really serve any purpose. In all my aquaclear110s i go with the sponge on the bottom, then a layer of filter floss, then stuff them full of bags of biomax... nothing sticking out of the water. U got...

How many 3mm pellets a day?

My 10" male jag gets 3mm nls and northfin pellets, the larger i go in size from there, the more that is wasted out his gills. Doesn't mean your fish will do the same, but don't be surprised if he makes a bigger mess the larger you go. Having said that, I'll usually drop him anywhere from 8-10...

What is the largest fish I could have, to live by itself in a 50g tank?

+1, I prefer multiple filters on all my tanks. For a 55g tank with 1 Oscar, 2 aquaclear 70s would be perfect. And if you're going to add multiple fish, I would just get a group of small Oscars and as soon as you get 1 that you like, sell the rest. You'll see once an Oscar gets in the 6-8" range...

    any experience with Trimacs?

They're actually in the Amphilophus genus with the Midas and Red Devil and just as aggressive. Definitely wouldn't add a trio of adults, I'd probably just get 5-10 juveniles, grow them out, and pick your favorite 1. Like any of the large aggressive SA/CA cichlids, they aren't community fish and...

    Fish growth hormones

My jag is 2 years old and 10"... A stunted fish is not a healthy fish no matter how you look at it, neither is a 3 year old Jag that's only 3"-4" long. It's somewhat laughable that you'd call that "perfectly healthy." Just because we CAN keep certain fish in any size tank we want, doesn't mean...

    Fish growth hormones

My 125g tank is home to my 10" male jaguar cichlid and thats it... Why would you even consider housing a fish that can reach 18+" in a tank thats less than 3 ft long and a foot wide? For research purposes? Water conditions deteriorate rapidly in small tanks like that and large cichlids like that...

    Pleco vs parrot?!?

Haha, dont take it so personal buddy.... I'll put 50 plecos and/or algae eaters in my 125g with my male jaguar cichlid and bet nothing like that ever comes close to happening. I know certain fish are known to do this but its definitely far from common. An alert/healthy cichlid should not allow...
