    No, I have a feeling I'm just starting over with the cycle. So starting over. Ammonia - 0 Nitrites - 0 Nitrates - 0 pH - 7.4

    Confused over water test results

Background: I set up a 10 gallon tank about 3 weeks ago, added plants. After about a week, I got a betta (fish-in cycle). I used Tank Buster which is a product like Quick Start that is produced by my LFS. I tested my water parameters nightly for about a week and there was no change (0...

Went to buy plants....bought betta instead

Yep! I'd never seen them before - normally my LFS just has crown & veils.

What Made You Want A Freshwater Aquarium?

When I moved into a place of my own, my brother gifted me with a white cloud minnow and another tiny fish in about a 0.5 gallon container saying that they'd be fine in it. Me being me, I did the research and went from that to a 20 gallon planted aquarium, to adding a 90 gallon aquarium with a...

Went to buy plants....bought betta instead

I made the mistake of going to Petland with my 3yo in tow. I went to see what they had for plants there since it's a lot closer than my normal LFS and my daughter saw a betta and wouldn't leave until we bought it. So no plants for me.. but, hey..finally have a fish in my tank.... Ignore the...

10 Gallon Planted - Back after a long hiatus

I have completely lost faith in my LFS. I returned the 24" lighting and talked to the guy that does the planted tank seminars there about LED lighting and he suggested the 18-24" fluval eco light. (I've decided these guys must get some awesome kickback from them since they sell a lot of fluval...

10 Gallon Planted - Back after a long hiatus

I've seen a lot of mixed comments on LEDs, but I like the energy use reduction, that's for sure. So will hubby with the electricity bill ;)

10 Gallon Planted - Back after a long hiatus

I'll see if it'll work with one. If not, I'll probably return it and get a 20" so it fits properly on the aquarium (which I'm actually thinking I might do anyways as I have a 3yo kiddo). If I do decide to return it, I might have to figure out if I want to do a T light or LED.

10 Gallon Planted - Back after a long hiatus

That was what I was worried about (the ballast was on for 1/2 price, so I got sucked in).

Returning to fish after 6-7 years off...

I was here before, but not an active poster (obv by my post count). Previously I had several tanks.. by the end of it, I had 4. From a 90gal oscar tank to my little 2-3 gallon hex tank. Now I'm getting back into it... and am amazed that I have forgotten SO MUCH. The basics I know.. but many...

10 Gallon Planted - Back after a long hiatus

I totally posted to the wrong forum here. But hey, while I'm here...I have some questions!!! I have basically forgotten 90% of everything in the last 10 years. I am starting over with a 10 gallon tank and went to my (usually fantastic) LFS.. and I know I overbought. So I'm debating now...

New to Nanos.... right from the start...

i really wish i could get US pricing.. cheapest i can find it other than ebay (ie, real retailer) is $430 for the Aquapod, minus shipping. Not available locally unfortunately. And if i ship from the US, i'll get hit with duty & gst which brings it to roughly the same amount. You have no idea...

New to Nanos.... right from the start...

Space is an issue, so i think i'll stick with the 12 gals... i already have over 120 gals of fish tanks in my place..*laugh*.. so i know it'll be tougher trying a smaller one first..but i have good luck with the smaller systems it seems.. :S The deluxe model sounds like a plan.i was trying to...

New to Nanos.... right from the start...

I knew my first "stupid newb" question would come quickly..*grin*.. uhm.. i didn't think you could keep corals in a 12g? *bashes head*..LOL. Okay, i'm pretty much sold on the 12g.. and it would look better in the space i have for it.. so i'm definitely going to go that way. Now to save up the...

New to Nanos.... right from the start...

Okay, i'm taking this right to the very start as i've read up a lot on it, but haven't really found the answer to my very simple questions...hehe. I'm looking at buying one of the JBJ nano cubes.. either the 6gal or the 12. I know most people say that "bigger is better", and 6 gallons can make...

    2 new planted tanks..advice please!

Okay, i ended up getting a 15 gallon.. why? Because i found one super cheap. One of the mom n pop type pet stores here is going out of business (thanks to walmart moving in) so all of their display tanks are on sale. I got a 15gal for $12.. came complete w/ heater and filter, though i...

    2 new planted tanks..advice please!

LOL, i have a feeling that if i let you, i'd end up upsizing to another 90 gal ;) I actually HAVE a spare 24" 65watt coralife in my closet unused... and it would cost $22 for a tank from big als? In person or online? Unfortunately, they closed their calgary store so the closest one is 3 hrs...

    2 new planted tanks..advice please!

Thanks for the info - for the bigger tank, moving to a 10gal would be easy, the pricing is fairly close for the 5 and 10gal tanks, probably easier to find a lid for a 10gal tank too.. *g* I just have to wait 2 weeks to buy that one (which is going to drive me nuts..i hate waiting). I'm...

    2 new planted tanks..advice please!

Hi, I'm about to set up 2 new tanks and am looking for advice with what plants, light, etc to use. Here's the basic setup for both. Tank 1 - 2 gallon hex, will house a betta, 15W bulb which will probably have to be replaced? I'm thinking i want to put real plants in here, but this is still...

Not really that new to the forum...

Well, after lurking for eons, i think its time i should probably introduce myself :D I've had fish for over 2 yrs now (geesh, time has flown). My brother had a tradition with friends that whenever anyone moved out of their parents place, he'd buy them fish. So, when i moved out of my parents...

    Snails out of control

Thanks! Right now my tank is understocked with just having 8 guppies, a plec, and 3 kuhli loaches in it. So if i had just a couple more loaches it should be fine. I'm always keeping an eye on the water params, so i'll give it a try! This will have to be it for the tank though or it will get...

    Snails out of control

Thanks, it looks like the striped loaches will eat snails, though should be kept in groups of at least 4. Man, if i keep this up i'll have more loaches than guppies in the tank (i have 3 kuhli loaches in there currently). Is it possible to overload on the bottom feeders? :S
