I bought the black Petco sand and it took a long time to rinse. If it were me, and there are no fish in the tank, I'd empty it and rinse it out. If there are fish, well...I'm stumped. Sorry.

No personal experience but I've read lots that the RCS would be an expensive snack. Once our tank is cycled, we're going to get ghost shrimp and then a couple of Bolivians a few months after that. I'm hoping all will go well.

Hubby and I are going to be starting up a 29 gallon soon and will be doing a fishless cycle. I think I have searched for ammonia on every major retailers website as well as the hardware stores in our area. We had an Ace Hardware at one time but it's now a Natural Grocer, so I can't complain...
