    what is this stuff?

Based on the fact you took it off a filter at your local fish store and the looks of it from your picture, I would say 100 to 1 it is hair algae vs some kind of moss. It's not impossible to get rid of once it is in your tank. If it starts growing on its own, that is due to you aquarium...

    Purigen?

On a 20 gallon tank your purigen should work for the better part of a year before it needs to be recharged.

What to do with my tiger barbs...

I've got an 18g extra tall, same as yours, just a couple inches taller. I have 6 tiger barbs, 2 serpae tetras, 2 zebra loaches, & 7 otocinclus. They all get along together quite well. 33% water change weekly and lots of plants.

Selling one of my set ups, what should I ask?

Thanks. I think I'll ask $400 and see what I can get.

Selling one of my set ups, what should I ask?

I'm not pricing based on the size of the tank. 20, 29, 55 gallon tanks are very common. A 44 pentagon, with fitted glass top, while not a custom tank, is close to. It is a rare size & shape, which can fetch a premium from people who are looking for a corner aquarium. I don't know how it stacks...

Selling one of my set ups, what should I ask?

Well I'm hoping to get $300 for everything together. I don't know how feasible that is. What do you think?

Selling one of my set ups, what should I ask?

I need to downsize and get rid of one of my tanks. I'd like to sell my 44 gallon pentagon (corner) mbuna tank, but would like your thoughts on how much it might fetch based on this description and the pictures I have in my photo album before I put it up on CL. So....what do you all think I...

Is it ok to store USED matrix bio media?

I would give it a good rinse in hot water, then dry it out in the sun for a few days. Once dry I would store it in an air/water tight container like a food storage container or old (cleaned) mayonnaise jar. I wouldn't store it in water. I don't see any benefit to it, but adding potential for...

    zebra loach vs nerite snail

I'm going to go with 5 or so. My LFS couldn't get them in again, says its something to do wtih the supplier, so we'll see how much they are when they do finally come in. Originally he told me 99 cents each.

    zebra loach vs nerite snail

Wiggles: what type of snails do your zebras eat? The FW-acclimated nerites at my LFS are $0.99 each. I want them primarily for algae eating, I'm not really that much into snails except for their utility as an algae grazer. I've read varying accounts of nerites and loaches. Some say the nerite...

    zebra loach vs nerite snail

I'm planning on putting some nerites in my planted tank. I have a striata loach & a golden zebra loach in there. Any guesses on whether the nerites will become dinner? The loaches have ignored MTS & assasin snails before. I'm thinking they will pay no mind to the nerites, but I don't know for sure.

    How to lower ph?

Sorry, I've got a pimple on my butt and sitting on it puts me in a cranky mood. Check out seachem neutral regulator. You can use it as a water conditioner for chlorine & chloramine (has same stuff that is in Prime), so you don't need to use anything else. It will move your pH to 7.0 and...

    Clams!

If you want clams it is best to keep them in a cup that is burried in the substrate. Then you will always know where they are. You will be able to check on them regularly and remove them quickly when they die.

    How to lower ph?

really? how bout you keep in mind that providing a little more information when asking for advice might be of benefit. I don't know, maybe like giving us your current pH, desired pH, any other water parameters you have, the volume of the tank, tank inhabitants, reason you want to lower your pH....

    Too much CO2

My DIY CO2 keeps my drop checker in the yellow, appx 40-45ppm CO2. Your CO2 level based on drop checker method is an estimation & without a pH controller you won't be exact in determining your CO2 concentration. As long as your fish aren't showing signs of distress (gasping at the surface...

    best DIY CO2 recipe

Personally, I wouldn't worry about how fast it gets to work. Whether it is 30 minutes or 3 hours, thats inconsequential when you are looking for steady, long term production of CO2. More water = longer, more steady production.

    best DIY CO2 recipe

The more water you use, the more diluted the ethanol created is, thus the longer the yeast lives for. I use 128oz gatorade jugs (about 120oz of water in each jug), 2cups sugar, 1/2tsp active dry yeast, 1/2 tsp baking soda. I have 2 jugs running on my 18 gallon tank. I change each jug every 3-4...
