    Anyone know what this is?

It's it little bigger than a quarter, including tentacles. I first noticed it rooted in the sand, but it's been moving all over the tank. The photo shows it on the back wall next to the heater.

The Mysterious Case of the Wandering Zooanthid Polyps

I've had a zooanthid frag in my tank for about three months. It hasn't spread at all, due to the fact, I'm sure, that my tank is still maturing and that the frag keeps getting knocked around by my snails. This morning, I noticed two small polyps -- identical to those on the frag -- on other...

Emerald crab caught and ate clownfish? WTF?!

Yeah, that's possible, or perhaps probable. It just seems odd because the clowns were doing great. No sign of illness or stress. I'll presume the crab innocent for now, but if there's another mysterious death he might get the boot.

Emerald crab caught and ate clownfish? WTF?!

Had in tank 2 small clown fish(about 1.5 inches each), a yellow clown goby, a cleaner shrimp and a few snails. And an emerald crab. When I went to bed last night all fish were healthy and happy. No signs of illness or stress in tank. Tank is cycled, water parameters great, etc. I woke...

    What is this stuff??

Oh, man. So what happens now? Am I going to have a tank full of snails? The only non-snail critter in there now is a new little yellow clown goby. Will he eat the eggs?

    What is this stuff??

You mean with white stuff hanging from the threads? That was a guess I had, but what about the brown stuff?

    What is this stuff??

Photo attached. This appeared over night on the back wall of the tank. It appears snail-related, but I have no idea what it is. I have 4 narssissius snails in a 12 gal reef I'm starting to establish.

Do I need to secure the the rocks in this pile?

This is a photo of the new tank I'm cycling. That's about 15 pounds of base rock, well planted in the sand and stacked in a way that seems fairly stable. I haven't used anything to fix the rock in place (e.g., epoxy, dowel rods, etc.). Is this going to stay together, or will my inverts knock...

Cycling question - unexpectedly quick nitrite/nitrate readings

The rock was dry dead reef rock, so I don't think that would have contributed much to my readings. The impression I've gotten from this board and others is that the live sand doesn't contribute as much as good live rock. The biggest question to me is why I wouldn't have ever seen a single...

Cycling question - unexpectedly quick nitrite/nitrate readings

I had the same question about the sand, though it was a little damp in the bag, like you get if you dig down a little bit at the beach. That's why it seemed unlikely that there would be much cycling going on in the tank prior to addition of the shrimp. I considered the possibility that the...

Cycling question - unexpectedly quick nitrite/nitrate readings

I've set up a 12-gallon nano tank. I put in about 15 pounds of live sand (purchased in a bag from Petsmart), 15 pounds of base rock (CaribSea fossilized/petrified reef rock) and the water two weeks ago. About a week in, I poured in a bottle of Bio Spira, just for the hell of it, and...
