    Switch To Canister Filter

Hey all, I currently have a 45 gallon freshwater with a handful of fish and a small red ear slider turtle (yes, I know I will eventually need to get a larger tank for the turtle). I currently have a Tetra Whisper HOB filter and while the filter works well, I am looking to minimize noise. The...

    NJ friends?

Not sure exactly where you are but if close enough to Scotch Plains, go to the Pet Shanty on route 22. Huge selection of freshwater and decent saltwater selection. Helpful staff.

    RODI in Freshwater Aquarium??

Hey folks, I have both a freshwater and saltwater tank and recently picked up an RODI unit for the saltwater tank. I know that by using the salt mix I am adding back the appropriate amount of trace elements, etc. My question is can I (or do I even want to) use RODI water in a freshwater tank...

    Input requested: New RODI Unit

I have a follow-up question regarding the rodi water - so I dont need to use a water conditioner but is there any need to add anything to the water now that it is "pure". Minerals, etc? I am asking for a fowler. Thanks.

    Input requested: New RODI Unit

Hey all, I have a 60 gallon FOWLER for about a year now and finally decided to purchase an RODI unit (better late than never...). Since my municipal water supply contains chloramines, I spent the extra money and purchased a six stage chloramine RODI unit from Bulk Reef Supply. My question to...

    Starfish placement

Mine also stays on the glass pretty much at all times. I just gently pull him off the glass and place him at the bottom of the tank. Later that day he is back on the glass.

    chocolate chip star fish

When he comes to the water surface and I do feed him by hand, I use Rod's Food which is a brand of frozen food. The type I use has a mixture of stuff so whatever doesn't stay with the starfish the fish eat.

    chocolate chip star fish

I have a chocolate chip sea star in my fowler tank and agree, they are a great addition to a tank. Mine mostly stays on the glass of the tank and at times when he is near the water surface, I will feed him some food by hand and I can watch him expose his stomach.

    Newbie to SW

I am a long time freshwater enthusiast who just started a fowler tank a few months ago. I would say that in order to do things right, it will be hard to stick to a $400 budget. I have found that the advice of bigger is better for saltwater to hold true and u should definitely want things like...

    Vacation Feeding?

Any other suggestions? In regards to the reply about being able to go a week without feeding, has anyone else done this? Not that I am looking to torture the fish but this seems like a reasonable option since I don't have someone to feed in my absence and can't use frozen food in an automatic...

    Vacation Feeding?

I have an auto top off that I have been using since I first set-up the tank. The thing works great and haven't had any problems with it.

    Vacation Feeding?

Hello all, I have had my FOWLER up and running since this past October and while I don't have any immediate vacation plans, I wanted to get some advice on what others do in terms of vacation feeding. Unfortunately, I don't have someone that can do it for me and while I do have an automatic...

    Info on Solaris Wrasse?

Anyone have experience with a solaris wrasse? How large do they get? Compatibility in a fowlr? Is it compatible with clowns, angels, snails and star fish?

    Very new newbie :-) - Stocking a 27 gallon

The general rule that I follow with a freshwater tank is one inch of fish per gallon of water. I have a 45 gallon tank so I wouldn't stock it with more than a total of 45 inches of fish in total. When following this guidance, be sure to take into account what the adult size of the fish will be...

New member but long time follower

Hello all, I have been following AA for at least 6 plus months but just joined as a member and posted my first thread in the FOWLR section yesterday. Just wanted to take a moment to do a general introduction. I have been doing freshwater for eight years and currently have a 45 gallon freshwater...

New 60 Gallon FOWLR - Trouble with Angels

I am not sure on the tds. I will have to get something to read it. Just learning more now about the need for rodi. I was originally under the impression it was better but not a necessity for a fowlr tank.

New 60 Gallon FOWLR - Trouble with Angels

Thanks for the replies. Ph is about 7.9 and I am using tap water with the conditioner. They seemed to be eating, primarily brine shrimp. I didn't try algae wafers - perhaps they werent eating enough. Thanks.

New 60 Gallon FOWLR - Trouble with Angels

Hello all, I have followed AA for about six months but just recently joined as a member. Overall, I have found AA a great resource. With that said, I could use a little advice. I started out with a freshwater tank eight years ago (first 20 gallons and then moved up to 45 gallons) and...
