What is your lighting mate? Or are the leathers doing better? Funny you mention wanting a Xenia I got one a week ago.

I had one and lost it in my last tank, I wasn't ready for large polyp stony corals. But anyways stay alert but optimistic. Some of my corals have contracted and closed for days only to work on forming another head or growing bigger.

Yep the product set up manual states that you leave it on full blast till it breaks in. This can take up too 3 weeks.

I had a sea clone " horrible skimmer" "do not buy it!" I am getting a new one to run in my sump, and after seeing them in action at the local LFS and research. The reef octos are the way I'm going. Amazing skimmers that come in all sizes!

My sump is a 65 gal with the same footprint of my 2 40 gallons so it was easy to tell it could handle the overflow if the tanks form a Siphon, if the power goes out or something.

Very nice, like the subdued lighting look. I don't have anything fancy over mine.... Yet ;)

Great looking coral, what lighting you have? I just got a cleaner shrimp and a few frags, a hammer coral and a Xenia.

do fire red shrimp eat long hair green algae

I have a fire shrimp but have not seen him go for this algae specifically "not that I have any now" they will go after plant matter, I've fed mine dehydrated sea weed. As of how to get rid of the long hair, your water peramiters may or may not even support it. Check your nitrites and nitrates.

Tank looks good, most substrates will get compacted no matter what you do. Have any sand sifters? They may do the trick. Let us know what you get at the store :)

White spots are dead or dieing algae, idk if that is in part how it spreads and starts new spots but it seems that way. I have a pearly and I know how you feel about the blue dotted Jawfish.

There are various types of coralline algae, one I know of and have in my sump, is the exact green. Great pictures reminds me of my first tank :)

Or you can glue their mouth shut and they shrivel and implode!

For a 10 gal I'd stick with water changes, protein skimmers are of more use with higher water quantities. Thinking of a bigger tank or upgrade? Are you having nitrate / nitrites or ammonia buildup?

55 Patience is a Virtue Seawater Build

I've had my sump up and running for about a week now, water has never been so clear! I was reluctant to go with a hang on overflow box, so I drilled my tanks and installed one proper :)
