Okay well I checked the tap water and it read at 0-5ppm. I'm planning on converting my tank from non-planted to planted, so that would get rid of any decorations other than the driftwood. Other than that, I guess I can clean the gravel(which is old). Would that be enough to lower them along side...
Hi everyone, my pH is at about 7.6 right now, and i would like to lower it to the ~6.8-7.0 range. I've seen that pH down stuff, but I've also heard that putting peat moss in the filter could bring it down. I'm looking for more of a permanent fix.
My Nitrates are also high. I was having a bit...
I'm looking to buy some hardy aquarium plants to start off with(I've never kept live plants before). I'm wanting java moss, java fern, wisteria, and Anubias. But I'll definitely consider other hardy plants.
I've read that java moss can grow out of control. With that much light would I be better off going with a different type if moss? Or would I just be able to trim it every now and then?
So as I've been reading up on how to start out with live plants, I've seen a few people mention that there can be too much light, too little, etc. I just want to know what is the right amount of light, co2, and nutrients.
So here's what I'm planning(I have a 29g):
I would like to get some of...
Well I think either this weekend or next I'm going to get a 23w cfl that's 6500k with dome reflector. I think I'll start out with one but possibly add another. I'm just going to go with this method until I decide to commit to an actual T5HO fixture.
Thanks for the responses everyone! I had to order some stuff last night so I just went ahead and ordered some flourish and comprehensive. I'll hold off on using it and see how the plants do. I guess it won't hurt to have the stuff
I would like to pick up a plant or two this weekend. I still haven't replaced my lighting yet, so would some java moss, java fern, or anubias be able to live under a T8? I would attach them to the driftwood, so they would be pretty close to the light rather than at the bottom of the tank...
Well you never know. I just assumed my loach was gone and moved on. I was upset at first but then I figured I wouldn't dwell on it. Then 3 weeks later he was back. I had to look a few times to make sure I wasn't just seeing things.
A little over a month ago one of my zebra loaches went missing. I tore the tank up looking for him, and there was no sign of him. I assumed I had dumped him with the old water. But like 3 weeks later I turned on the light and saw all three of them. He's slowly starting to come out more...
Yeah the more I think about it the more I want to just go all out. But the money issue is what's keeping me from doing it. I have the money, I am just trying to refrain from spending it. One day I'll get a bigger tank and make that my "all out" tank, but I don't want to do it on my 29
Well I've been doing some online shopping, and the more I look around the more I realize I'm going to want more than a little bit of java moss in my tank. So I think I'm going to go with a whole new lighting set up. I'm not sure if I'm going to buy the T5 HO fixture though, I may go with a DIY...
Okay cool. The main reason I want it is to attach to the driftwood so it can grow and fill in some of the upper areas of the tank. But I may also place some in the more empty areas of the tank
Well it's a 29g, so it's 18" high. I'm not looking to have a jungle in there. Just som java moss, java fern, and maybe a couple other plants to mix in with the fake plants
It's funny. During feeding time the rams will get straight to it, then the shark will come out and try to chase two of them away and they flea at first, but then the third one will just ignore him and continue to eat and the shark doesn't pay him any mind.
Okay I'll definitely have to check that. I can't imagine that my hood is would be able to handle super high wattages. I came across one that might be a good fit, but it's only 31 watts. Would this be ideal for some low light plants?
