They won't hurt anything and are perfectly normal in a new tank. They will go away eventually. A couple oto's couldn't hurt either, they're cool to watch! The silica in your new tank water will break down and the diatoms will begin to vanish on their own.

Don't sweat it. Test your tap water because that will ultimately determine what your tank ph will be. I'm at 7.8 and everyone is happy. Consistency is more important than the level of ph as long as your not at 9! If you store the tap water for a week before you do a water change, it can gas out...
