    Planted marine aquarium ?

I was thinking of edible (gracilaria seems to be a good choice) and inedible varieties (Bryothamnion looked like a good option). Even possibly a specimen of sargassum. The idea is that my display tank have a variety of sea life, in one place. My ideal plan after the tank cycles (sand and live...

The gorgonians are pretty cool, thanks. How about the red macros?

    Planted marine aquarium ?

That’s good to know. If that’s the case, regular pwc and/ or protein skimming works better in the long run rather than shortening the photo period vs lighting intensity? (It’ll be in a 29 gallon tank, starting as a planted FOWLR. The sessile inverts will happen later.)

    Planted marine aquarium ?

Hello there, I have a 29 gallon tank and planning on Caribbean theme. Thinking of having macro algae alongside an anemone and possibly some easier/ hardier corals. So some questions: 1. Green and red macros? Trying to avoid any species that may go sexual. 2. Fertilizers to supplement Calcium...

    Best beginner inverts?

So your betta already hangs out ok with shrimp? Cool, congrats. Throw in low light plants for the inverts, like a moss ball or one of those mosses stuck on a piece of driftwood or coconut shell. That should give something to pick at/ graze on while your betta does his thing. Sent from my...

    Best beginner inverts?

Caveat: Your betta might end up snacking on some shrimp. I'm sure that there are some bettas that don't mind some tank mates; snails seem to do ok with them. Hope this helps and good luck Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

Increasing water flow in a small planted tank?

Just an idea- You can also try making/ fitting a baffle at the outflow of your aqua clear 50. This may help divert the water around the tank. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    My planted tank

Been a month on dry ferts, EI dosing. Growth has been slow but steady. Found some Alternanthera reineckii at the LFS along with a very basic co2 setup. Looks like I'm getting into gas along with ferts!! I'll probably have to dose via pps. Pics probably over the weekend. Sent from my iPhone...

    My planted tank

The fam went away for a week and dues to lack of fertilizers, got lots of holes in my hydro, water wisteria, rotala and banana plant. My ludwigia and bacopa were covered in green spot algae. Bonehead move on my part: forgot to turn off the timer for lights. Oh well, at least my fauna are...

    My planted tank

Major trimming of red ludwigia (3 dozen stems!), removed some whole stems of water wisteria (8 large stems !) & 2 dozen bits of water lettuce. Some headed to feed rather voracious goldfish (pair of comets in a 40 gal, thanks AA when he asked for advice!) and some to some African ciclids in a 50...

    Any DIY plant weight ideas?

Toothpicks or use the bottom most row of leaves (for stem plants) and bury them beneath the substrate. Stones or larger gravel pieces work too. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Attack of the Dreaded BBA

Hey there, If you have some regular hydrogen peroxide you can dose the whole tank, just remember that metricide is about twice as strong as excel. Here's a link below: http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/showthread.php?t=203684 Best of luck. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    My planted tank

Started noticing that the banana plant was producing two types of leaves: completely submersed ones and those lily pad looking ones. I researched a bit here in AA and noted that when this occurred to other lily plants (nymphaea) one simply trimmed the shoots headed to the surface near the base...

    NY botanical gardens

So I took my little ones to the botanical gardens in NYC (Bronx). Aside from the flora and gardens, there are a few ponds they have set up both in the conservatory as well as in the children's garden that are pretty cool. Some pics below. Koi and comets (?) in the conservatory. Pond in...
