The 75gal with the Ec0-complete is 2 1/2" to 3"deep. The 40gal is half sand and half gravel ablout 2", with 1/2" worm castings.

Wow 20dkh, that's high. You must be glad you have an RO filter. I put worm castings on the bottom of my 40gal. It works plants grow good, but I don't think I'd do it again. Everyime I pull up a plant the water gets black.

Yes I have made my own root tabs whith Osmocote. I just got lazy. It worked great for the Tiger Lotus. Is your KH that far out of line that you want to mess around with it?

I think I figured out the problem. Last week, after I read your suggestion about something being out of balance, I bought some root tabs and put under some of the plants. What a difference already. The red lotus is red again. Wherever they were put the plants just perked up and look healthier...

It may not look like it in the pic, but the lights are centered over each half of the tank. I've included a pic from the top of the tank. It's easier to see what I mean about the plants. They are a kind of brownish color with small holes in them. The lower nodes on the plants are farther apart...

The tank is the standard 75gal 48x18x21. The lights are about 10" over the water, 6" over the top of the tank. I didn't want to drill holes in the ceiling, so I made a frame with 3/8"pipe to hang them from. It's open top. Co2 at about 3 BPS. 2 Ehiem 2217 filters. ph 6.8, total hardness 200ppm...

Nice pics. I was wondering where do you have your lights set at? The reason I ask is I also have 2 AI Sol over my 75gal planted tank. Mine are at Wt55% Bl5% for 7hr with 1hr ramp up and 1hr ramp down. I had CF over them before and they seemed to grow better. I'll try to get a pic but I just...
