    Which plant should I get?

Depends on the fish. I like hornwort for my fry to hide in.

    Big Enough?

As soon as they don't fit in the mouth of the bigger fish. They can still be pestered for being small, so a few hiding places would be good. You might want to consider upgrading to a bigger tank. It's getting crowded; the general rule is 1 gallon for each inch of fish. But all fish are...

    Help blue/green algae!!!

There are a lot of different types of fish that eat different types of algae, and it really all depends upon your set-up which will work best for you. You said blue/green algae, and I'm not totally sure what type it is. Here is a good link that talks about aquarium algae. Hopefully it will help...

    Fish tank makeover

I do almost exactly the same thing librarygirl does unless I am moving substrate. IMO I feel the stress level of the fish is less when I do slow rearranging with them in than if I move them to another tank for a few minutes or hours while I do it.

    compatibility of freshwater species

I've read varying information online but the general consensus seems to point from maybe to no. It seemed to say that if the frog is smaller, it will get eaten. If they are about equal, they will fight. If the cray is smaller with an overwhelmingly larger frog, the small possibility will exist...

    Molly pregnant? Please help!

After looking at your photo it doesn't appear she is squared off fully. I do notice the small beginning of a gravid spot though. That is a good sign that things are progressing nicely. As for the white spot, I'm not sure; not well versed in diseases. Could be ich? Just watch it as Hholly said...

    Molly pregnant? Please help!

I bought mollies when I first started the hobby month out a half a year ago. They breed like crazy. I usually let Darwinism play its course so I don't get too many. If you do want to try to keep as many as possible, here are the things I look for when I think my fish is about to give birth...

    Newbie here!

Hello all, I figured I'd send out a hello as I am new to the forum and new (6 mos in) to the hobby. I have a 75 gallon freshwater community tank. I am into process of converting it from a plastic to live plant tank. Added some sand under the gravel for some rooted plants. I will eventually...

    Heater question

Yes, you can damage the heater if the water does not remain above the minimum fill line. Some newer, more expensive heaters have a safety feature to shut off when there is no water contact. When I first started I broke my heater this way. What type of heater is it, do you keep it vertically...

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

Hopefully figured out what has been plaguing my tank and cleaned my medical tank from the deceased Molly and fry. Nothing too happy to report on what I have done with my tank today.

    Sick Tank?

Final reply: Sadly, the silver molly was dead when I woke up this morning. I snapped a few photos of her and attached them. Her underside was almost completely gone and turned black on the top and sides. Thanks all for the help. If the other issues in the tank don't get resolved, I will start a...

    Sick Tank?

I have added some better photos of my Silver Molly to hopefully help diagnose that issue. It appears as if the scales, and then skin, have shed off in cotton-like balls, still partially attached. I don't think she was attacked by any of the other fish, but I could be wrong. Thanks all again.

    Stock suggestions

IMO I personally prefer angelfish, but it's only a 30 gallon so you may not have a room for a lot of other fish in your community. I also like mollies, tetras and gouramis. But like scottyhorse said, it depends upon your tank size and what type of water you have (I.e brackish, etc.). Do you...

    Sick Tank?

I did begin a fasting yesterday morning, so time will tell with that. I will continue with my pea regimen and let you know how it goes. Thank you!

    Sick Tank?

Yes, I do presoak the worms as well as push some of the food down into the water to make sure the little fish eat too.

    Sick Tank?

Hello all- New to the website and forums here. I've been meaning to join since I got into the hobby about 6 months ago but it took this issue to finally give me the nudge to seek the advice. I recently began having a string of issues with my tank and nothing seems to be consistent (with the...
