Some of the other members have had a similar problem, and I had an encounter like it as well. Where - as you mentioned before, soon after a water change a fish ends up dead. For some the fish seems to be acting erratically, or just simply lay on the bottom or top dead soon after.

+1 looks likes that cotton mouth fungus to me.

I bought the smaller bottle of stability and added it to my tank when I got home. I couldn't find zeolite - but I picked up ammonia Lock by API. My remaining friends seem happier since I added in the Ammonia lock.

I rinse it in the water I just took out of the tank as per instructed in my research. So yes it is chlorinated. I don't do it in the first batch since that's generally dirtier then the last bucket I take out. I've only had this tank up and running for four months after it cycled the first time.

Ah HA! My mom was blaming me for killing her 'baby' pleco, saying I do too many water changes and there's no such thing as ammonia poisoning. So glad that other people have had this problem as well. I guess it'll be a mystery for a bit - just like when one fish will seem to have a spazz attack...
