Please help! Sick Shubunkin, gulping and breathing heavily, very thin, emancipated

My Shubunkin, Bruiser, has been sick since I returned from a vacation. I was gone 2 weeks and paid someone to take of things. The night I got back I noticed Bruiser was sitting on the bottom of the pond, so I put him in the 75 gal in the house. He was VERY thin and had maybe some light fuzz on...

Oranda has Red Streaks in Tail Flaky Skin on her Face

Would love to visit Australia, but I live in the good ole USA. :-) Yes we also thought to wait on the kanamycin. We are doing Furan2 and Metro+ with tank covered. I thought she was doing better but she is floating on her side again now and looks slightly pineconed. So gonna add a little epsom...

Oranda has Red Streaks in Tail Flaky Skin on her Face

I am going to make a batch of medicated gel food per the instructions on the Hikari website. Cant find any Furan-2 so I will order more. I have maracyn 2 and the metronidazonole Hikari Metro+. Can I combine the 2 in the same food? My thought is to cover both external and possibly internal...

Oranda has Red Streaks in Tail Flaky Skin on her Face

Hi again. Wanted to check back. My goldfish seems to be slowly getting worse, even with the salt treatments and MB dips. Her symptoms are: fin/tail rot that is not getting worse or better, white stings hanging off her (which have lessoned), labored breathing, weakness, unable to submerge for...

    PLEASE HELP! Guppies fin damaged!

I am concerned about how quickly this happened and the one with the bent back. Is there any way they could have got hurt on a pump or filter? One of mine looked like that when the intake pipe of my filter pump fell off and part of her got sucked into the fan. If you want to try antibiotics, I...

Oranda has Red Streaks in Tail Flaky Skin on her Face

Thank you again for the info. The dreaded C word for fish. I sure hope not. I will keep an eye out for open sores. What stood out in the article is that columnaris can be caused by exactly what happened in my case: a spike in temp, an older weaker fish, bullying by another fish, high aeration...

Oranda has Red Streaks in Tail Flaky Skin on her Face

Yes you are right about the equilibrium for planted tanks and great info all around about the params. For now on DT I am doing daily 20 % WC to slowly bring ph back up - I hope! In meantime will work on the diy suggestions you gave for buffering and getting my goldfish better. After 4 years I am...

Oranda has Red Streaks in Tail Flaky Skin on her Face

She is in QT and the last two day she has taken a turn for the worse. Fin rot progressing rapidly. Ph in QT is 8.2 I have added salt, 3 tbs in a 15 gal tub. 50% water change daily to maintain clean water. Adding salt back per quota. 4 days ago I added API Fungal Cure because I thought maybe...

Oranda has Red Streaks in Tail Flaky Skin on her Face

Thank you for your help. The QT was not cooler and she quit eating when isolated so is back in Dt. Not getting better. Not worse though. Tap water: Ph 8.0, gh 13, kh 8. Am 0, NO2 0. DT one week after water change: Ph 6.6, gh 14, kh 2. Am .25, No2 .25. What is going on in this tank? Why is the...

Oranda has Red Streaks in Tail Flaky Skin on her Face

My 6 yr old Red cap Oranda (who I love dearly) has very red streaky tail/fins that started today. Tail and around her face appear flaky. Eating ok. Bottom sitting behavior. The tank cycle crashed sometime in the last week - ph fell from 8.2 to 6.2 with ammonia and nitrite spikes. Not sure why...

    Unusual death

Can a fish choke? I've heard others talk about fish choking, too, but fish breath through their gills which are like lungs on the sides of their head. Even with something stuck in their mouth they could still breath through their gills, right? :-) Either way, it is sad to see a beautiful...

    Pleco behaviour

Yes, this is normal. Mine does this a lot. Not sure why, maybe filling his swim bladder, idk. He releases bubbles on the way down. Make sure you have the lid closed, because they can jump out of the tank.

    Unusual death

Sorry for your loss. It could have died from natural causes, a stroke or something like that. It sounds like he had a good life with you. :-)

Guppy w/ tail rot, losing scales - good pics inside

Has his tail always had the round shape, or did he used to have a long fan tail that has rotted to a round shape? I have guppies with all tail shapes so thought I had better ask.

Guppy w/ tail rot, losing scales - good pics inside

I also have fish with lumps. Some fish just have lumps. Eating and being active are good signs that he is still pretty healthy. It doesn't look like tail rot where the tail looks ragged with frayed edges. His tail looks like it still has a round shape. Just a side note, when I have treated...

Sudden Death of Large Healthy Orandas

Oh dear, I think one of my remaining fish, Bruiser, may be partially or completely blind. The reason I think this is because A) I did not see him eat for the first week. B) the day after the others died he stayed in the back corner, not moving much C) he does not try to grab the food as it...

Sudden Death of Large Healthy Orandas

Thank you for the kind words. The fancies were so beautiful and had grown so large. My consolation is that up until that day that they had a good life. :-) Hopefully my horrific story will help others be aware of the silent killers in city water. Prime is a water conditioner but does so much...

Sudden Death of Large Healthy Orandas

Good news, it has been 7 days and Bruiser and and Pumpkin are doing ok. :-) Pumpkin, the smallest one, has been eating her metromeds with some peas. Bruiser has finally started eating a little bit. And I saw him poop a little today, not much but looked pretty normal.:-) But they are still...

Sudden Death of Large Healthy Orandas

Thank you for the kind words. Do you mean to say that you get snails in your tap water? I know a guy here in town who is the relative of a supervisor at the city water treatment plant. I am going to see what I can find out. Puzzling questions remain.

Sudden Death of Large Healthy Orandas

Thank you for helping me yet again!!! (you really should write a book, I would buy it!) Unfortunately I do not have meth blue. where would I buy this? What you mentioned about the chlorine/chloramine poisoning sounds spot-on. I've been giving Metromeds to the fish who is still eating. To...

Sudden Death of Large Healthy Orandas

I just had a thought. There is a ranch store here that sells injectable antibiotics for livestock. Any thoughts about injecting him with antibiotics? I really don't think he is going to make it, he hasn't eaten for days now and his eyes appear to be bulging a little. Sent from my iPhone using...
