    DIY nitrate reactor build

Sorry as TCC mentioned I have disassociated myself with the forum. I happened to just think about it and decided to pop on. Anyway the reactor did not work as well as planned but I would like to blame that on a significant bioload (turtle and some convicts in a 55 gallon). I believe I required...

    10 Gallon GBR

No actually they are all new! Thought I got two females and 1 male but I got three females. Ill have to trade back for a male. Their newest batch didn't look so hot but I think they were just acclimating because they all looked pale and lethargic. But the two smaller females I got are beautiful...

    10 Gallon GBR

Put this together after I tore down my 40 planted. Some driftwood, leaf litter, and floating plants goes a long way. http://youtu.be/BsxbqQXBNBc

    German blue ram people!

Most rams in the US are breed in neutral to hard water so you should be ok

    Mopani vs Malaysian driftwood

How much did you pay for that from foster and smith?

    DIY nitrate reactor build

Too much feeding I suppose. Plus it's my turtle and a JD, not the smallest bioload for a 55 lol. Anyway should get better after the change ill check tonight. And it's a submersible pump I just connected some hosing to it that feeds to the reactor and then back into the tank

    DIY nitrate reactor build

I unfortunately had to do a huge WC today because my ammonia was sky high and my JD wasn't looking great. Just did about a 90% change. I will check trates tomorrow and go from there

    WC anchor

Lol you just need an adapter, you can get one for a couple bucks at a hardware store

    WC anchor

Anyone who uses the python system does. It's designed to do water changes from your faucet. Doesn't work for me since the siphon can't hold between floor levels. But as long as you dose and then fill you'll be ok

    DIY nitrate reactor build

Ok so I got it going and the flow is REALLY slow which is what I wanted so it will definitely be a while till I notice results I believe. Some leaky spots but ill perfect it once I know it's working. I won't be able to get a reading until tonight though because I left my test kit at my mothers...

    WC anchor

Not at all, it's for my turtle and dempsey and haven't had any problems. Been doing this for a while

    WC anchor

I dose for the whole tank and then fill it up

    WC anchor

My faucet, the hose is hooked to my bathroom sink on the main floor. I just simply slipped the hose through the hole and the weight anchored it so it doesn't flop around

    WC anchor

    Lol sure is!

German Blue Ram female hovering at top of tank with red tuft hanging out of belly?

I don't think there is much you can do. I'd do a 50% WC to being nitrates to 10 ppm but other than that there isn't a solid solution.

    DIY nitrate reactor build

55 gallon tank, 2L container, 1.5L of DeNitrate. Total length of hose may equal about 2.5-3 feet

    DIY nitrate reactor build

Not sure how adjustable the sun suns are, you could give it a try. I wanted to get the lowest rated pump I could find because I knew the actual numbers would be less so at the lowest setting, I will most likely be well under 50 GPH and that's the goal. Ill have it running in another day or so...

    DIY nitrate reactor build

Seachems DeNitrate, it's engineered to house anaerobic bacteria (low oxygen). You can't put it in your filter because the oxygen levels are too high and will have no effect on nitrates. I've equipped it with a 50-80 GPH pump that I'm sure realistically will be less than 50 GPH and is exactly the...
