Serpae minor tetra

There is certainly something wrong in my main tank. Another platy has a white mouth and a serape tetra also is showing signs of a disease. I probably did not quarantine my new fish long enough.

They are probably worth about $4 per rooted plant ( perhaps 5 stems). They are easy to grown tall under medium light but under high light they tend to get algae on the leaves ( if ferts are offset)They are also very potassium hungry plants as they can easily present holes on leaves.

It could either be the narrow leaf giant or the compacta variation. I used to have the giant but it didn't survive when I moved to a new house. But I still have the compact var.

Is a ten gallon? I have a 13 watt on my ten gallon and it seems to much light. It illuminates all the corners.

If you are doing a low tech tank, you may want to remove one cfl bulb.

If you are planning to use gravel instead of sand, go with Eco-complete. It will be easier and not as messy as with regular gravel.

I just finished setting up my (new dirt converted) 40B after moving two weeks ago.

I don't see what you couldn't use a mix. But I personally wouldn't like the look. A mix of gravel and sand doesn't add any benefit to the system except that it will be a quick "fix". And once both substrates are mixed, forget about separating them.
