    Mixing Gouramis/Cichlids

I am a fan of apistogramma, but I want something bigger around 5" or so

    Mixing Gouramis/Cichlids

Ok. What if I were to skip the gourami and add only a single firemouth? I guess it just comes down to the personality of the fish I get.

    moss wall

No problem. I painted the back of my tank black and I like the look of it.

    moss wall

I'm not sure where to find the green plastic but if you painted the back of the tank black the black plastic wouldn't be seen and it would look just as good (IMO). Just a thought.

    Mixing Gouramis/Cichlids

I have a 40 gallon breeder with 2 blue gouramis, 2 keyhole cichlids, and 1 BN pleco. I wanted to add another blue gourami and 2 firemouth cichlids. I was hoping that having the five fish will spread out some of the aggression that is associated with them. My tank is densely planted with lots of...

Old filter, new filter, beneficial bacteria

Well I would run it for about a month or so but I think the most effective thing would be to take the filter cartridge out of the HOB and place it into the canister near the bio media. This might help with transition quicker. I would then take the cartridge out about a month later, Maybe a...

    Dusty looking water?

A bacteria bloom is the result of an "upset" in the cycle of your tank. If you feed too much a couple days, or maybe a couple of plants die, or pretty much anything that could produce more ammonia in your tank than usual, will cause it. What happens is that there is a regular amount of ammonia...

    Dusty looking water?

Well it might not be a bacteria bloom, but a couple of things make me think it is: -Your tank is only 1 month old so your water is not very stable yet. This would make a bacteria bloom much more likely. -Your filter is not catching the particles. During a bacteria bloom, the filter will not...

    Dusty looking water?

By water parameters I mean your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings from when you test your water. Your ammonia and nitrite should be at 0, and your nitrate should generally be fairly low (>50 or so). If your readings are not similiar to that, you may have a bacteria bloom. If you don't...

    Cucumber

What exactly are you wondering? I feed my pleco cucumber regularly and my other fish will pick at it occasionally. I have tried zucchini as well which is just as good, though my pleco prefers the cucumber. It is good to feed a varied diet and include vegetables.

Which single fish for 27 gallon tank?

I figured that they got to big, but I was looking it up and most people were saying the minimum recommended tank size was 30 gallons. So if he was only going to have one or two, I figured I would throw out the option.

    Dusty looking water?

How long have you had the tank and what are your water parameters? It could be a bacteria bloom

Which single fish for 27 gallon tank?

I know you said 1 fish, but I think a pair of kissing gouramis would be really cool

    My stock

Well the amount of aggression from the tiger barbs is usually related to how many you have. Size doesn't play as much of a factor. If you have a ton of them, they will usually just focus on harassing each other, while just one of them in a tank will most likely try to destroy everything.

    Bolivian ram sexing??

I could be wrong but I think its a female

    My stock

If you want to switch to something else because the tiger barbs are too nippy, I would highly suggest a school of 10 Odessa barbs. They are far more colorful (imo) and they aren't nearly as aggressive.

    Feeding Questions

So I have been reading about new life spectrum and I wanted to pick some up but I had some questions about it. Assuming I get the food, -Should I still supplement with bloodworms/algae wafers/ etc.? -Should I feed the same amount as I do with flakes or should I feed less/lessen amount of...

    Filter Sponge Ripping?

Yeah I could probably just place a new one over the old one then remove the old one about a month later.

    Filter Sponge Ripping?

So I have an eheim 2213 and the last layer of filtration is the "fine filter pad" which is a thin white flossy layer. It is starting to rip (its been in there for about 6 months) and I want to replace it but I have a feeling that all the crap on it is biological bacteria. I read that the thick...

Starting a 75 gallon freah water tank

Well one benefit will be that your water parameters will be much more stable with much more water around.

    Driftwood

You can tie a piece of rock to the bottom of it and it will sink. Later you can remove the rock from the driftwood and it should be able to stay on the bottom. I would just use some fishing line.

How is it practical to order fish online?

I can understand that. But in regards to the fishless cycle, it would still seem to me that throwing in more fish would be more ammonia in the tank and upset the cycle, unless you were throwing a TON in to begin with for the cycle. Its frustrating because I want to order fish online but don't...
