What are the most effective methods to clean coraline algae off of the glass in your tank? I've got quite a bit forming near the sand layer of the glass in front of my tank adn was hoping to clean it off without stirring up too much of the sand.

Right now I'm testing my water for Ph, amonia, dKH, nitrates and nitrites. Is there anything else I should be looking for? Along those lines, what is the best level of dKH to maintain? Should I try to keep it all the way at 12 or on the low end, towards 7-9? (Saltwater reef tank)
