Need Help Upgrade Lighting For 50 Gal

Bought the Current TrueLumen Pro 8000K sun light. Works pretty good! I have seen a noticable growth change in my plants, they ones that were growing fairly rapidly w/my low light are exploding with growth with the new LED light! The only downside I see was that each part had to be purchased...

Any Less Expensive Filters Similar To Fluval G3/G6

I have the Fluval 406, works great and is really simple, easy to clean and maintain w/o all the bells and whistles. Yes you have to turn it off but it is really fast to clean.

    55 gallon filtration system

I have a Fluval 406 with my 50 gal. Works great so far! I have a lot of plants but I am way understocked on fish but the filter handles the bioload really well so far. I haven't had any issues with ammonia or nitrites after I cycled.

    Peacock gudgeon or gardneri killifish?

Personally I love the look of the peacock gobys. As long as they have a cave/ hiding places and fit your water stats, I vote peacock! (Note, I am biased since I'm planning on getting some soon!)

    new assassin snails

We just did the "Great Snail Purge" on our tank, went like this: arm in, picked up snail, squished it and disposed of it. Over and over, got rid of 20+ snails that way. We still have a bunch from the plants that I did not ask for so another purge may be in the future. We just put a...

180 Gal New tank need help/advice plz

I think that you can easily stock the tank with that number of fish; like 2 shoals of 2 different kinds of tetras (top/ mid dwellers), 2 shoals of corys (bottom), and something in the middle and a nice "centerpiece" fish like rams. I can't wait to see it! For substrate: I love sand, I love...

Need Help Upgrade Lighting For 50 Gal

Ok that makes sense. How do you know if you are purchasing a "cheaper fixture"? I am assuming that the Current TrueLumen Pro is considered to be a "good" fixture as it has been recommended in this thread but it is significantly "cheaper" than some of the LED lights I have seen out there...

Need Help Upgrade Lighting For 50 Gal

I saw someone else mentioned that they prefer T5 because if a bulb goes out you just replace one rather than having to replace the entire thing as with a LED. Is that true? If your LEDs start to die you have to replace the entire setup?

Subwassertang is also called Pellia or Mini-Pellia or (Pelia). I don't know where you are at but try aquabid for plants too.

Need Help Upgrade Lighting For 50 Gal

Ok, thanks for the advice! There are so many options out there and I am not close to a good LFS (most are just petsmart/petco) to ask either. And honestly, I take what the guys at the LFS say w/a grain of salt since they are going to be promoting their products regardless if they are the best...

    Easy to grow mosses

I bought some Malaysian trumpet snails on aquabid and the gal tossed some subwassertang in as bonus. My shrimp like it a lot but I am realizing the lighting will need to be upgraded fast since it seems most of these "mosses" etc need more light when they are at the bottom.

Need Help Upgrade Lighting For 50 Gal

In regards to the TrueLumen Pro, are you suggesting a 12K or 8K, I don't understand how to do the math to figure out the PAR values. I'm assuming I'd need a 48" strip to fit the length of the tank or would I choose a 36" since I currently have two 18" T-8 bulbs which = 36"? As to the Finnex...

Need Help Upgrade Lighting For 50 Gal

Thanks for those suggestions. I will check them out. I need to have a lid on my tank because I have cats (dander and hair in the air) and a little boy (might throw a plastic fish or two into the tank) etc, will these suggestions still work with that? Most of the photos on the sites have a...

    Hello from the Pacific NW

Thank you. We just had to shift some things around, the filter wasn't working because of the sponge we put in it for the shrimp and I found a dead blue shrimp, no one had ate it, it was just dead. Who knows why. That really sucked, so now I'm down to 1 blue shrimp (that I can see), he...

Need Help Upgrade Lighting For 50 Gal

Hey there, I am wanting to upgrade my lighting for my 50 gal freshwater. It is 48" x 12" x 20". I have looked at tons of different already made setups but am overwhelmed by the number of choices out there. I have read articles on the differences between T8, T5, T2, and LED but am so confused...
