what kind of clean up crew for predator tank?

Exactly. While I barely have any live rock, just two softball size rocks, I do run carbon in my Rena Filstar, including ceramic rings. My Coral Beauty does a great job of algae-cleaning, he rarely eats when I feed the other fish. He grazes all day long on wherever algae is growing. My Yellow...

what kind of clean up crew for predator tank?

I tried hermits, turbo snails, and a peppermint shrimp in my tank. None of them lasted more than a couple of minutes due to my Picasso Trigger. He ate the peppermint shrimp within 30 seconds. And then just kept flipping the snails and hermit on their back and took them out one at a time.

Coral Beauty won't eat anything I feed him

Tried Formula 2, he's the only one in the tank that won't touch it. I put a second clip in the tank with algae strips, he nibbles on it every once in a while, so that's a good sign I guess. He's not showing any signs of sickness and now gets along with everyone. The tomatoe clown (who is...

    Noisy XP3 Filter

Strange, it must have been a bad unit, my XP3 is silent. I have to touch the hoses to feel for vibrations just to make sure it's on.

Heaters - how many watts per gallon?

I had a 200W in my 55-gallon for a while. The problem was, the temp varied alot, it got a lot warmer during the day then at night. This one did not have a thermostat built in it. So, I purchased another 200W with a thermostat. I had the first heater at 3/4 power which kept the water at...

Coral Beauty won't eat anything I feed him

I'm going to pick up some Formula 2 and another algae clip (my Tang protects his also). I did notice the Coral Beauty was picking at the algae on the glass, successfully at that. Who needs some stinkin' snails when you have one of these? :D

Coral Beauty won't eat anything I feed him

We picked up a Coral Beauty last Saturday (well, I wasn't there) and at first my Yellow Tang was harrassing him. After 2 days, the Tang left him alone and everything seemed fine. The CB is always picking at the live rock, I guess eating the algae growing on it. The problem is, he won't eat...

    My new tank (w/pics)

You're tank looks real nice, I like it! The good thing about the Rena Filstar XP3 is, if you ever need a UV sterilyzer, the Turbo Twist works great inline with the Rena XP3, it's whats pumping my Turbo Twist 3X.

How bad of an idea is this?

I added a single tomato clown (small) to my 55 gallon after I already had a big domino and small yellow-tailed damsel in the tank. The clown actually hangs out with the domino, which is at least 4 times his size. I may have just gotten lucky though.

    Seaclone skimmer advise

I don't think it is detrimental to the fish or corals, but it does 'cloud' the water. Some have said to let it do it's thing and the bubbles will eventually go away, I just didn't have the patience.

    Seaclone skimmer advise

That's exactly what it is supposed to be doing. My problem was all the micro-bubbles it was dumping back into the tank.

    Moonlights are cool

On Saturday I rearranged the equipment in my tank, just to make it look a little more professional (90-degree angles and all that jazz). At the same time, I raised my powerhead closer to the top of the tank, which caused more agitation at the surface. Well, after my events Saturday...

    phosphate remover ??

When my phosphates were off the charts, I used Phos-Zorb. I used a piece of panty-hose and filled it up to about the size of a baseball and put it in front of the spray bar. After 2 days, my phosphates were cut in half, but that was as good as I could get it. After changing from a CC...

    You'll never believe what happened!!!

Tested the levels a few hours later and everything is perfect. I went ahead and started a 10 gallon rubbermaid 'water change' container like was mentioned above. I'll try to pick up a 20 gallon this week. The wood floors made it out okay. I'll say this, mopping a floor that quickly at that...

    Turbo-Twist 3X UV Sterilizers

I've got some before and after shots of my tank with the Turbo Twist 3X. I'll try to post them this afternoon. All I can say is, WOW! I bought it due to an on-going algae bloom problem and this unit clean it up. It took 5 days but now my water is crystal clear. I used a 250 gallon/hour...

    You'll never believe what happened!!!

Got it filled back up. Fish seem to be doing fine. I'm letting it circulate for an hour or so before testing the water, though the salt level is good. I wanted to get pre-mixed water, but my lfs only sells them in liter bottles, I would have filled half the bed of my truck up going that...

    Seaclone skimmer advise

I've tried for about 3 weeks getting my Seaclone 100 to work properly, it never did. It only produced greenish water, not the dark gunk that other skimmers produce. Plus it kept pumping micro-bubbles back into the tank. I could never get it adjusted properly. The sad thing is, I love my lsf...

    You'll never believe what happened!!!

Yesterday, I decided to put my Turbo Twist 3X inline with my Rena Filstar XP3 canister filter. Connected everything and there were no water leaks. Everything seemed fine. I got in last night at about 1:00am and went into the kitchen to make some coffee. I heard this gurgling sound coming...

    Triggers and Inverts

Not at all. I know fish behave differently from scenario to scenario, thought I'd give it a shot.

    Triggers and Inverts

I can attest to this. Against the advice of members on this board, I was at my lfs yesterday and went ahead and purchased two hermits, a turbo snail, and a peppermint shrimp. Let's just say the peppermint shrimp didn't last 30 seconds in the new tank, my Picasso Trigger took him out just like...

    UV sterilizer setup question

Well, it's been 5 days since I connected the Turbo Twist 3x, and my tank is almost crystal-clear again. Maybe another 2 days and it'll be perfect. Then I'm going to put it inline with my filter's return.

    feeding while on vacation

I'm leaving for a 5-day trip to Vegas at the end of June and have decided not to have someone feed my fish. I'm just going to put the lights on a timer. Guess I'll see who survives.

    Im a Bad Aquarium Person

My first fish was a yellow-tail damsel also. He had the tank to himself for a while before I added other fish. He is the smallest fish in the tank and I didn't have a problem adding the other fish in my sig. But as you can see, most of my other fish are semi-aggressive and territorial...

Any one here ever put a trigger in a reef???

My Picasso Trigger loves to grab a bunch of sand in his mouth and move it. My tank use to have a nice level sandbed, but now has a bunch of craters and hills. He actually caused one of my baseball size live rocks to move 1/2-inch. He reminds me of my Siberian Husky, a heck of a digger.
