So I am looking for reliable places from which to get fish and supplies in Wisconsin, preferably near the fox valley. Any suggestions?

What can I feed my fish and shrimp?

Another thing that I just started this week and seems to work really well is rotating the diet that my fish have. I usually do a flake feed every other day. In the meantime, I was letting my fish snack on algae and snails/snail sprog. In order to keep a varied diet for them all, I'm still...

    Lamp eye fish

Does anyone have experience with these lamp eyes? I saw them for the first time in my LFS and am trying to figure out how they get on with other fish (specifically guppies, tetra, and danios).

Which algae eater for a 10 gallon

Be careful getting a plec for a 10 gallon tank. I had one in my 10g that I raised from about an inch to six inches before he had to be rehomed in a friend's larger tank. Now he is closer to 10 inches. While he was a fantastic algae eater, he pooed a lot, which meant religiously cleaning out...

    Good luck figuring it out.

    guppy deadD:

Do you have any way to isolate and narrow down the suspects? Worried that you might lose a bunch of fish.

    Something has obviously taken offense.

Then it probably felt threatened. Best guess, something took offense to the male guppy-- cichlid or rainbow shark?

    need stocking ideas! :D

Guppies are finicky for a starter fish and they breed like crazy. The tank will probably be quickly overpopulated unless you only get males.

Use google foo to find local aquatic shops. If you are in the States, Animart usually has a decent selection of fish.

Can my dresser support my tank?

Student furniture has student pets on it! Works all the way around. Next to my 10g, I have a slightly bigger tank whose weight is spread over two little end tables. One was left on the curb; the other was a fiver at a local charity shop. Some bricks evened out their heights, slapped an old...

    guppy deadD:

What size tank do you have? What's your water profile? Are there any other inhabitants in the tank? Are the other guppies male/female? Keep in mind that guppies are often just have bad genetics and just drop dead.

    Leaving on an extended vacation.

If you have a planted tank, then there will probably be something to eat, especially for the smaller fish. They should be fine :D.

What can I feed my fish and shrimp?

I have found that a java fern in the tank produces some algae and any baby snails that supplement my fish's diet.

    need stocking ideas! :D

Frogs, snails, danios are fun, or shrimp. If you have a little tank, make it interesting. I have a 7 gallon with my guppy fry in it. They have some java fern to nibble on, a bubbling volcano, and a pyramid to play in. Just give the fish something to do, and they will be fine.

Can my dresser support my tank?

Yes, you are fine. My ten gallon is one my cheap fiberboard dresser from IKEA and has been for awhile. Yours is much sturdier :D.

Approve/critique my 29 gallon stocking list?

The hatchetfish are a fantastic choice. They play and have a fantastic time racing around the top of my tank.

    Sponge Filter Question

The sponge filter pulls air in from overhead on its own, but I also run an airpump that distributes air through a six inch airstone.

Pets at Home (UK nationwide pet store)

Which Pets at Home in Sheffield do you use? I go to the one by the Matalan/Britano on Chesterfield Road (?), and they have good stock and clean tanks. Advice ranges from subpar to excellent depending on who you get. The lad with longish hair is excellent. Then again, again the Pets at Home out...

    Happy Snail Colony

Not too long ago, I had some pond snails hitch a ride home on my java ferns. Since then, I have been careful to not overfeed and create a population explosion, and so far no explosion. Last night I discovered some little helpers in controlling the snail population. My three female guppies...

    Sponge Filter Question

I have shown sponge filters in both my 55L and 60L tanks. They are fantastic and my water is always crystal clear and tests pristine. They do seem to miss small bits of debris that settle into the gravel substrate. I have tried vacuuming the up, but they are just too small to get with a hand...
