Thinking about switching a 20g tall or 10g to planted reef

I didn't think about that. that is an interesting idea. Before I moved My bedroom/office was a fish room which I miss. I don't have that luxury anymore because of wall space where I'm at now. 24 inches about length is max I can do. Where I can fit the 24 inch length I was going to build...

Thinking about switching a 20g tall or 10g to planted reef

The past day I've come across and learning about refugiums. Personally I'd rather be able to display macro in the tank. Refugiums are quite interesting. I came across pico reefs looking up more into keeping reef tanks. I may turn my 3.5 into a pico down the road. A small refugium for that is...

Thinking about switching a 20g tall or 10g to planted reef

Thanks. I know the rock is the bio filter. My reading indicated that not as much rock is necessary when adding in macroalgae.

Thinking about switching a 20g tall or 10g to planted reef

This would be my first saltwater tank ever. Before I decide to tear down my cycling 10g or 20g plunk down money for rock, wave maker and salt mix, I have some questions. Coming from planted freshwater. I have a 20g tall and a 10g currently filled and cycling them (for freshwater). I got them...

information gathering for a stock pond

Hi- Last summer I moved from a tiny house in Denver to a nice 10 acre property in Mobile, Al. Sadly I had to sell all my tanks but am looking for a good deal to get back into the hobby but that's neither here nor there. House is about done being fixed up finally. I have two barns and I already...

is there something wrong with my cardinals

okay cool. thanks. I usually don't run the light til the evening. I don't get much natural light during the day in my bedroom unless I open the blind. I usually let them sleep mostly during the day and use the lights from my tanks as my bedroom lighting.

is there something wrong with my cardinals

this has been happening for a while (or i just haven't noticed til recentely) and they seem happy and healthy and eat fine so I don't know if this is normal whenever I first turn on my light they have almost no color (almost clear) and look sick. after the lights been on a while they color...

ludwigia repens does pretty good in pond in colorado

back in june for kicks I put a couple three small little cuttings of ludwigia repens (only around 3 inches) in my moms pond to see if it would grow and even see if it would bloom. I put it in there and let it run its course. it didn't bloom but it went a little wild. longest piece is over 2 ft...

moving soon to alabama. moving tanks vs buying new ones

i think selling off the other two tanks and taking everything else is probably what i will end up doing. hmm then again getting rid of the 55 and stand means i have an excuse upgrade to a 70 or 90. db - how are the fish stores down there? where i am at now in co i have 4 pretty good ones...

moving soon to alabama. moving tanks vs buying new ones

i was planning on keeping the equipment. i can't not have fish tanks anymore. i have a 10, 30, and 55. since i got to work on my moms house i am going to have to tear them down here in the next few weeks. that's going to kill me to not have my tanks set up for a long time. might take the 30 at...

    my 55g journal thread

did some rearranging and added another piece of petrified wood from one of my other tanks. looks a lot cooler but i don't like where the plants are right now. lemon tetras love wisteria. they have ate most all the tips off around the leaves. its still transitioning so it didn't look that good...

    20g long lighting

i am going to move my 10g up to a 20g long here soon and i have looked at them. i am probably going to just go with cfl in clamp lamps though because of price unless i can spoil myself. the planted+ has the red leds that are supposed to be better for photosynthesis. the original one doesn't...

using all purpose plant food without fish

i know using regular plant food uses ammonium nitrate usually and isn't fish compatible but what about growing out some plants in water without fish to put in a tank with fish. mainly to get some of my plants to propagate a bit faster. i have some all purpose plant food that's 6-10-10. if its...

    my 55g journal thread

thanks. I like the 55 but I wish it was shorter so it could have more of a footprint. being tall makes it harder to light well. but can't argue with free. scape is going to change definitely. next wc I am going to do a little rearranging to see If I can get it looking a bit nicer and try to...

    Cave Aquarium Build Journal

that'll be a nice stand when it gets built. i made the one for my 30g about 15 years ago and still holds. i just used some 2x4's and lag bolts. I've considered adding doors to the front to make it look nicer but my luck that'll be when it fails.

    my 55g journal thread

I've been getting a new plant about every other week for a while at the lfs. been putting them in my 10g with the idea of transferring it to the 55. left about half of everything in the 10g so if it doesn't work in the 55g I won't lose all of it. i had anacharis, wisteria, hornwort, and java...

    my 55g journal thread

I switched out the lights from 2 15watt tubes for a hydrofarm 4ft 54watt t5ho single strip light with the separate reflector sitting right on the glass. starting with one light and then going from there if I choose to do co2 and go higher light. the reflector is modular so you can bolt multiple...
