    Filtration question

I have a 55 gal fowlr right now as well. I have 50 lbs of live rock , a protein skimmer and an eheim 2227 canister filter. All 3 combined my system is crystal clear. Canisters a great filters you just need to make sure you stay on top on water changers and rinsing the filters pads in tank water...

    Flame angel

A 55 is fine for a dwarf angel, but you need to think about other important things before adding a flame. 1. What is your current stocking list? Are you already fully stocked? 2. Will the fish you already have be compatible with a flame? For example, do you have any other dwarf angels ? 3...

    Flame angel

I keep a flame angel in my 55 perfectly fine! But what is the rest of your stocking list? That will help answer your question!

    Dot Dash Butterfly Care

I agree. They are delicate, but they can be done and thrive. As long as you put your time and effort into researching all about the butterfly family of fish. You will need to try different things to entice her to eat as well. As mentioned before, I had to try mysis soaked in garlic, seaweed...

    Water testing a FOWlR tank

Exactly. For fowlr tanks it isn't necessary to test for those other trace elements. They will be replaced by your bi weekly water changes. If you plan on doing coral later on down the line you will need to test for those other elements.

    Water testing a FOWlR tank

If its just a fowlr tank than a simple API saltwater master kit will do. If you will do coral later on down the line then invest in a more expensive kit. For fowlr, all you really have to test for are; ph Ammonia Nitrite Nitrate

    Dot Dash Butterfly Care

Yes. From my personal experience and research Aurigas and raccoon butterfly's are the hardiest of butterfly's. just watch it eat before you buy it. And watch it for a few minutes to see if its eyes are clear, if its body is healthy and make sure it isn't flashing or rubbing itself against the...

    Dot Dash Butterfly Care

+1 with mr x. As with all fish make sure you inspect them for any health issues before purchase. Clear eyes. Eating in store. No white spots or Flashing. And a nice belly not one that curves inward.

    Dot Dash Butterfly Care

I have never kept this species of butterfly but have a small raccoon butterfly in my 75. They are beautiful fish. As long as it is a "small"( meaning 1.5-2inches) than you should be ok. In terms of care, butterfly I'm general are delicate fish. They need pristine water quality and can be picky...

    Raccoon butterfly flashing

Rid ich plus is not a copper treatment. It is formalin and malachite green. I did the full dosage again last night, after I did a water change and let her eat in peace. I will see how she is this morning and keep everyone posted.

    Raccoon butterfly flashing

Did my first treatment using rid ich plus yesterday. I have a question as I am confused by the instructions on the bottle. I performed the treatment in my 20 gal long QT tank. The instructions for a treatment were ; 1. Perform a 25% water change before treating 2. Add 1 tsp of rid ich per...

    Raccoon butterfly flashing

Still did not start treatment yet. The reason being is that she is eating very well now and I don't want to cause any unneeded stress that would actually be more harmful. I placed another fresh clam and mussels ( put two drops of garlic on the mussel) on opposite sides of the tank again today...

    Raccoon butterfly flashing

Thank you guys for all your help. I will give it another day or two now that she is eating to see if any other signs develop or if the flashing stops or worsens. Ill make my decision then. In the meantime ill just keep up with 25% water changes every other day. If you guys have any other...

    Raccoon butterfly flashing

Thank you for your advice. I like gathering and learning from as many people's experiences as I can. I am leaning towards agreeing with you , however the only reason I would start treatment would be to catch ich ( if that is what this could be) early before I notice any white spots develop...

    Raccoon butterfly flashing

She is in my 20 gal long for QT and observation. Today was day 3. She did finally eat today the clam and mussel after I did the 25% water change. She looked so happy. She hasn't lost any color or have any physical signs of infection. She just flashes maybe every half hour for a few seconds...

    Raccoon butterfly flashing

Did a 25% water change today and afterwards put a fresh clam and mussel in the tank. Finally she ate! Went to town on the mussel and clam swimming back and forth eating both (put one on each side of the tank) I still don't see any physical signs of ich (white spots etc) however she is still...

    Raccoon butterfly flashing

Tried love brine today. Saw her pick at/ eat about 3 of the 15 in there. That is a start I guess right? Better than nothing? Or should she have gone to town on them? I bought two fresh little neck clams and mussels from the seafood store today too and will try one of those tomorrow! After...

    Raccoon butterfly flashing

Thank you for all of your help. What do you think the best thing to try and get her to eat is? I've read getting a fresh raw clam or mussel and cutting it open and leaving in the shell and letting it sit on the bottom of the tank would help? Any other advice? I tried soaking the mysis in...

    Raccoon butterfly flashing

So you think if I can get her to start eating in QT I won't need to do treatment? Or is that not what your saying? You are just saying that it will help boost her immune system while I'm doing treatment. And you said .3 ml /l for the dosage , however what would that be per gallon? Can you also...

    Raccoon butterfly flashing

Thanks for the advice. I always just believed that treating a fish when you first get them when they show no signs of anything would only stress them more. But if you believe that this flashing is the start of possibly ich , than that is a sign! I guess I will start treatment tomorrow ! A few...
