anyone from Pittsburgh or Western Pa

It's NW of the city along 65 in Emsworth. They have pretty much every fish you can imagine, there were saltwater fish there I have never even heard of before. They also have all sorts of reptiles including alligators, up to 5ft ones. But as I said it is pretty dirty in there, especially as...

anyone from Pittsburgh or Western Pa

I'm a little north of Pittsburgh and just getting started into aquariums. Working on setting up a 36g Bowfront now. I have been to Super Aquaworld and they had a very impressive variety, but I wasn't impressed with how dirty everything was. Some of the tanks were very overstocked (20 foot long...

    Vinegar test?

Well they all passed the vinegar test. Does anyone know anything else about identifying which rocks are safe? I'll include a picture of them here. I don't want to introduce anything dangerous to my fish/plants. I just don't know what else I should be looking for in terms of rocks.

    Vinegar test?

Alright i'll soak them for a few days, scrub them real good, boil them, soak them again, and finally test to see if they change my water parameters after sitting in a bucket for a day or two. It just feels like a waste to spend lots of money on rocks at the pet store when I have rocks all...

    Vinegar test?

I'm trying to get some rocks for my new aquarium and I know you are supposed to test them to see if they bubble with some acid. I have plenty of vinegar but I wasn't sure how much testing is enough. I've heard everything from just put a couple drops on to soak the entire rock. My question is...

    First large aquarium, need advice

The finnex Ray and Ray 2 both look like pretty good LED choices for me. They are relatively inexpensive and should provide a low-med light level. I'll look into them a little more, but they look promising. I also like the Cardinal Tetras, i'll have to see if my LFS has those available...

    First large aquarium, need advice

I bought the tank setup today off of craigs list. It is a 36g Bow Front. The Filter that came with it is an aquaclear 300 (300 GPH). The light fixture is a coralife 21" compact fluorescent 65W. Currently all the bulbs are 50/50 bulbs. It looks like the light has enough power, but I would...

    First large aquarium, need advice

I read some more about pH and it seems that most fish can thrive even in high pH conditions as long as they are well adapted. I plan on having driftwood in my tank as well and I've heard that will slowly lower the pH as well, so I won't worry about it further. CPD's are looking to be on the...

    First large aquarium, need advice

I'm working on building my first large aquarium. I currently have a betta fish in a 4g lightly planted tank. I am currently looking around on craigslist to get a 38-50g tank. Whatever I can get for a decent price with a stand is what I will likely end up with. I had a couple of questions about...
