Well he was asking about price point, money wise the 120w leds are the way to go IMO

    Saltwater newbie

nope, t5's wont support much, you want a minimum of 2w/gal so if the t5's are 15w high output bulbs he would need a 4 bulb fixture for a 20g and that gets expensive fast plus replacing all 4 bulbs every 4 months is a pain in the wallet as well.

    Cleaning the sump

I'm was constantly tuning my skimmer for the first 6wks or so, I've had it for 6 months I got it to pull dark skimmate consistently.

I have all my rock work against my glass, I never bother cleaning my back glass because my tank is about 1" from the wall and I have no way to reach my hand back there, just paint the back glass black and you'll never notice, I like the look of a coralline covered rear glass. Just give yourself...

x2 on the rock location, is it against the glass? also i would go with at least 30lbs of rock for a reef, you can get smaller "filler" sized rock to fill in the gaps on the rocks to hide the seams in the larger rocks to make it look more natural and also add a few more pounds of rock to your...

So I'm at my lrs right now and I need some identifications fast! The first pic is what looks to be a birdsnest, maybe another sps and a monti? These are all $29 I definitely want a few, The second pic is of some small 1.5" frags for $19 and I would love a few as well, some nice color on them...

    Used live sand?

5 gal bucket and wash the he'll out of it until the water is clear you don't have to let dry if your in a hurry but if you have time just sun dry it for a day, if you have wax paper it's perfect for this. Lay it out thin, pour out the sand layer it thin and dry it. I've done this with 100lbs of...

    Adding clean up crew

definitely after the cycle, and i would add snails first to help you with algae and diatoms that all starting tanks go through, then hermits for nuisance algae like hair algae, then you can add decorative shrimp if youd like, but in that order would be my advice.

Moving tank - need some advice

i can tell yuo from experience alone, i reuse my sand, i just wash the living hell out of it outside in a bucket with just faucet water, basically washing all bad nasty crap thats built up in it, and just using a brand new bag of live sand on top of the now clean sand when putting it back in the...

First dive into the salty side!

i wouldnt use that tank hood t5, its maybe a 15w at the most, its less than a watt per gallon, it wont support much at all, i wouldnt want you buying corals and them die due to lack of light or slowly die a painful death, my suggestion is dont jump into corals unless your completely ready...

First dive into the salty side!

wow 8 pages in one day LOL, anywho, lps is easy to care for and easy to keep, sps is hard skeleton coral and can be tricky but are just as easy to keep with the right equipment.

    Cleaning the sump

Melissa that tank looks great, and i know how you feel about the fish always looking hungry, but theyre active fish, all the fish on your stock list are active fish, so activity usually doesnt mean hunger, and fish do have good memory believe it or not so if they learn that daily whenever your...

Help with nitrates in 75 gallon

i actually didnt even think of this, my bad, but it is the in the reef section, to the OP theres a fowlr only section for fowlr tanks bud. and i agree with 54seaweed above, 40ppm is completely fine.

Help with nitrates in 75 gallon

i wanna say 4" will be pushing it to its limits, skimmers are in the most literal sense a game of inches, so i would say 6" would be the minimum, if anything in that empty chamber you have you can add a piece of plexiglass on top of the trap just before to increase water height in the chamber...

Safe adhesive to use in tank

x2 on this, i use the same loctite gel control super glue on my coral frags and other things that need attaching in my tank, like power head suction cups ive had break before, it also can finish curing underwater so ill vouch for it link--> Loctite Super Glue Gel Control from Loctite Adhesives

    cooked foods

all ive heard is that we cook food basically to make it safe to eat, meaning releasing alot of proteins and nutrients and killing bacteria we cant process, or that would other wise make us sick, but animals in the wild can eat it just fine and thats what they need. so i would think cooked food...

    Live rock question.

^^x2 on this also your going to have a small cycle in your tank once you add the live sand, its going to happen. i would not use any water from the storage bin, if the rock was live when you bought it, it should stil be live and you can just transfer it over to your DT but if it was dry or...
