I am lucky enough to get filtered sea water from a local aqua culture program for free. It's is not the most pure but it is filtered to 25 microns and I also test it for trates and phosphates before taking it home. Been using it for 3yrs now in my reef with no issues. Once I buy a home I will...
Yes, the feeding is not needed but if you still wish to do so the bottle trick works well, for me anyhow. My female clown does the same thing. My Duncan doesn't mind her anymore but when I do feed it I use the top half of a bottle to isolate it.
55 gal DT with 55 gal sump. DIY stand, canopy and skimmer. Koralia 600gph and a maxi-jet 1200 in circulation mode plus the return pump putting 350 gph into the tank. CPR overflow (forgot what size) to the sump and an aqua lifter keeping that primed.
Like the others have said, most soft corals if not all of them will do well. If you decide to get Duncan coral you can feed it mysis shrimp once and a while and it will help it grow. My duncan has quadrupled in size in the 9 months I've had it with a weekly feeding. Going from two heads to...
Yea I really don't like using chemicals at all, I want nature to take its course and work its self out. Right now ironically I'm in the midst of an epic battle with cyano. Even still I wouldn't even consider using chemical additives.
What sniper said. Eventually it will spread. Just leave the skimmer and filters off for a few minutes to let the coralline "shavings" spread around before turning everything back on. I have heard of an accelerator for coralline algae but I have never used it. My lfs has some but like I said I...
I made mine from PVC. I used 3" PVC at 24" tall for the main reaction chamber and .75" PVC for internal standpipe for the return. 3"-2" reducer for the top and I had some 2" PVC laying around. That was used for the collection tube up into a plastic bowl I had also. The base is a 3" PVC toilet...
See I wish I could add him, his active and would be the only damsel per say other than the clowns. Since they are bigger and there is plenty of room there's a shot things will work out. However, this fish will get bigger than my clowns in the end and I don't want to risk issues later on. I just...
Thanks guys I think I'll skip adding him to my display. For now I think he would be ok but once he/she reaches full size that may change so I'm not going to risk it. I'll find a good home for him I'm sure, if all else fails a fowlr tank for him would doable once petco has their $1 per gallon sale.
Hello everyone, I acquired a domino damsel from a friend who is getting out the hobby. Its still very small at less than 2" and was wondering if; given this guys size would it be hazardous to put it in my 55 gallon reef with my Occ. Clowns? They are much bigger than this damsel and I figured...
My buddy gave me this lil frag. He gave it to me cause this had "over run" his 112. Seems to be doing quite well the three days its been in the tank. It's more open today than it has before so I guess that's a good sign. Thanks for any help.
I thought about that, maybe divide it into a couple sections and cram it with filter floss and bio media. The pump question came about from my firefighting background. Long story short, to pump a desired gpm or gph in this case up I the tank the pressure would need to be greater than that on...
I have a spare ten gallon tank that I am considering turning into a wet/dry filter for my oscar tank. It will be placed under the display tank in the stand about 2.5 feet below the top of the display tank. Any Idea what size pump to run in this to maintain 300gph roughly? I plan to use 3/4 -1"...
I agree, don't use the marineland cartridges. They are not the best. I use marineland filter foam the double layered stuff with some poly-fil and some bio max beads after that to give a little extra bio filtration. Works like a champ for my oscar tank. The poly fiber is basically a polisher...
Aqua clears are the bomb for hob filters. Emperors are a close second. I have both and they work wonderfully. AC's are better because you can improvise with different types of media to see what works best for your setup and they are crazy quiet.
Where are the suction cups clipped onto the heater? If they are near the element then that sometimes causes it. At least that's what caused mine to pop anyway. I simply moved them closer to the top and have not heard any pops since.
