Hey saltwater / anenome experts...please help!!!

Your salinity should be around 1.024 or 1.025. When I first started out my salinity was around 1.022. I raised it slowly over a series of 3-4 water changes in a few weeks. Most inverts are very sensitive to rapid water quality changes. Maybe you can take it back to the LFS where you bought...

    Lawnmower Blenny - color change?

Mine changes color fairly often and he can change very quickly too. He can go from very dark, almost black to being a very light color that you think you could see through. Lately he's been building a cave under a ledge he found beneath a piece of LR. Best part is that it's right in the...

    pufferfish questions?

For a while i had a green spotted puffer in with 2 clowns, a coral beauty and a lawnmower blenny. He was very peaceful and kept to himself. Unfortunately, the GSP is the only puffer I have experience with.

    New Aquarium All fish died

It's "only fish"?? I don't know about you but I"d be pretty upset if all the hard work I put into taking care of my tank and its inhabitants were not enough and I lost one or more of them. The fish have a right to live, too. If someone is not willing to put in the time and effort of caring...

    Vitamins, fish food, etc

Thanks for the info guys/gals. I picked up some Zoe tonight so we'll see how it goes. My hunt for a local source of Nori continues...if I don't find anything by the weekend I guess I'll just buy online.

    Vitamins, fish food, etc

I can't find any stores in my area that sell Selcon. I can buy it online but it will take a few days to arrive and I'd like to get it sooner. Anyone know of any chains that would sell it (other than Petco)?? Are there other vitamins that are more readily available that are good to help with...

    HELP!! Sick Tang!!

The only voltage near my tank is the light fixture which sits on top of the tank - there are no wires near the water....and also my 2 heaters. Wouldn't he have shown signs of this earlier (a few months ago) if stray voltage were the cause? Is there anything I can do to detect whether this is...

    HELP!! Sick Tang!!

OK the first water change is scheduled for tonight and I'll also go out and buy some selcon. Do you know if HLLE is contagious? I can't find any info. indicating that it is. Just wondering if I have to worry about the rest of my fish.

    Water Changes?

Most people who do salt water will use RO/DI water. Personally, I use distilled water and I mix it with salt and get it to the condition/salinity I want and then I let it sit for a few days before I add it to my tank. Some people keep 30+ gallons of pre-mixed water on hand and they aerate it...

    HELP!! Sick Tang!!

A few hours later, the tang is swimming normally and eating fine. He's showing no symptoms of being stressed or sick by his actions....other than the fact that he's got the nasty "rash".

    HELP!! Sick Tang!!

I came home from work today and found my yellow tang had a reddish rash all over the rear of his body and he's swimming kinda funny. He just keeps darting back and forth and then hiding. This morning when I left he was fine and had all of his bright color - now he's pale and rashy. Nothing...

how long should I wait between fish when stocking my tank

If I were you I'd wait at least 2 weeks...closer to a month would probably be best. I added 1 fish at a time in 2-3 week increments and had no problems. But IMO you probably should have added the tang last - they tend to be very territorial and can pick on new tankmates.

Name 10 things we dont know about you

    1. I'm probably the only Mets fan in Boston. 2. I work for one of the biggest computer companies in the world, yet I hate big business. 3. I golf too much - I'm about a 15 handicap. I started playing a year and a half ago and I'm fully addicted. 4. I just lost 25 lbs on the Atkins diet, so...

How much can this thing eat.

My LFS tells me to freeze romaine before feeding it to my yellow tang as well for the same reasons RR said. Just put a head in the freezer and break it off as needed. I usually alternate between the lettuce and seaweed salad, which both the tang and the algae blenny love.

    Fish personalities?

I had a green spotted puffer that would follow my finger as a moved it along the outside of the tank. Up, down and sideways...he was pretty funny. And whenever I put my face up to the glass to get a closer look at something I always find my 2 clowns staring right back at me..

Clownfish: What do you feed them?

2 different types of flakes and brine shrimp.

    Cleaner Shrimp

Snails are great for keeping algae off of your glass among other things. Be careful when introducing inverts to your tank --- do it as slowly as you can. You don't want to learn the hard way that acclimating inverts too fast can kill them.

Cloudy eye???? any one heard of it????!!!

When I wanted to increase my SG from 1.022 to 1.025, I did it over a period of 3 weeks by doing partial water changes. The new water I added to the tank had a slightly higher salinity than that of the tank. Good things happen slowly in this hobby.
