I've bought a 55G long aquarium and planning my fish. The tank came with 75lb of petco gravel. I've been reading about burrowing fish such as eels and dojo loaches that hurt themselves when burrowing through larger non-rounded gravel.

Mine has been aquatic people just trying to sell you a fish and they either know and don't care that that fish will not fit in your tank or they don't know. I believe the first considering how much they know about each fish when you talk to them. I've had one Exotic pet store owner talk up her...
That's some interesting advise. I've heard of people stocking to the brim, but I'd imagine you can overload the tank no? I have an emperor 400 double bio wheel filter (Good to 90G). How many inches would u say before once a week filter change isn't enough? Or overcrowding becomes a problem?
Sand is alright. I've heard of play sand causing trouble for burrowing critters but it's rare. Most recommend it. Can you replace the fixtures? I understand you're on a budget but the older T8 would never be able to light a 27" deep 100G
As far as I've ever read you would need to upgrade to the...
Rule 1! Very useful.. I've had LFS try and convince me I need a Fire eel in my 55G, same people tried to tell me a razorback musk is fully aquatic and compatible with fish lol

Thanks and is there any reason to buy common fish such as plattys at an aquarium store as opposed to Petco or...
The height affects how much light you need more than anything.
If you measure the tank it would help. The standard 100G tank is 20" tall
What is yours? The taller the tank the more water the light has to travel through and is lost, so you need more for taller tanks.
Awesome, when is it usually? I'd like to pick up a 10 or 20 and craiglist is always full of people that think their 10 is worth 40 lol
When: Like what time of the year? July?
Depends how heavily you want to plant it and what plants. I would recommend T5 HO to get mid light level plants. It'll give you more options in the long run. A good substrate fertilizer is your best bet. The liquid fetz are expensive and require a lot for a 100g the liquid fertz have to be added...
I've used this site a good bit for research to stock my 55 long and here's what I've come up with and why.
- 3 Platys 3" ea.
- 7 Tiger Barb 2.7" ea.
- 3 Golden Dojo Loaches 10" ea.
- 1 Rainbow Shark 5"
62.9" fish TOTAL
I've heard that a 55 long can support up to 75" in you are careful and...
