    Which 36" tank?

I am ready to do aquariums again, I miss my 55. I got rid of it due to space, but now I have a spot that I can put a 36" long aquarium that is out of the way, but in good sight. I have been trying to find a used 65 gallon...36x18x24, which has lead me to no luck. I am going to expand my...

Starting a first time Cichlid....Advice please

Ok so bottom feeder question. Will one Bristlenose pleco cut it? I know they are very active as I had some. I was reading something else that says Synodontis catfish are best kept with Cichlids due to the hard water, which is good because we have hard water. But they look to get way to large for...

Starting a first time Cichlid....Advice please

Ok Thank you. Unfortunately until I move into a bigger house (within 2-3 years) I am stuck with a 36" tank for the space. I loved the 55 and I even have a 90 sitting the basement, but I just don't have room to put it comfortably. I was doing some more reading, Mbuna's are pretty aggressive...

Starting a first time Cichlid....Advice please

So I just unloaded a 55 gallon and stand onto my sister. I wanted the space in my small house, it was just some community fish. I have re arranged the living room and found a nice small area that can fit a 36" aquarium without being in the way of anything. I want to get either a 65 Gallon or...

BRIGHT lights for a 90 gallon Cichlid future build?

So I recently changed my mind about using my 90 gallon tank for a planted tank and have decided to go with cichlids. I already have a 48" power compact lighting fixture. It came with 2 Actinic and 2 12000k bulbs, which I replaced with 2 6700k and 2 3-6-10 bulbs, each 55W, which were going to be...

    Angelfish Aggression!!

well AWESOME I think it has worked. Did a good cleaning today, so I took the big guy out for about an hour, rearranged the tank, even put my old ugly fluorescent light back on since its pointless using my power compact without and plants. Put him back in and they are floating together now, the...

    Pleco Poop!

Hmm good idea! I have a little cave my larger common likes to hide under, and its always filthy when vacuuming in that area. I guess I will move it over to the filter intake!! I also have 5 juvey bristlenose, and since they are still so little you cant really see the poo all that much.

    Powerhead in planted tank?

I need to get off my lazy bum and get my 90 setup. It is going to be a planted tank. I was hoping I could get a powerhead or something to help keep the poo in a general area and help in overall cleaning. Maybe two small one compared to a larger one? I would guess I don't want something OVER...

    Angelfish Aggression!!

Well I was at the LFS this evening and saw a black veil angel. $22 I really couldn't pass it up, it is about 4" (body size) so I grabbed it along with a few other fish. Problem I have is I already have an Angel, about 5" body size (just a bit bigger than the black veil) I have tried to add...

    New Pleco, please help ID

A little update. He is looking a lot better already. He has found himself a hiding place, and I really don't see much of him now when the lights are on, but when I got home tonight and turned them on I seen him for a bit. He definitely has some color back, and even starting to see the spots...

    New Pleco, please help ID

thanks for the advice, I don't know much about sumps, but I do have an extra 29, 40 long and will have this 55 empty. I will look into them, not sure for the purpose on a freshwater aquarium? I also have a 10 but am planning on a couple dwarf puffers

    New Pleco, please help ID

Thanks I will look into those vines, I am going to a planted 90. This 55 was given to me, and with it came a Marineland Emperor 400. I am getting a Cascade 1500 for the 90 and plan on setting it up with the 55 to get some BB in it.

    Stand for a 10

I am worried about the tipping over part. 10 gallon doesn't have a big footprint so I would like something longer that I could actually use. I have 2 cats that like to get on top of the 20 gallon I have on my daughters dresser. the 55 I havnt caught them yet but I am sure they get up there. this...

    New Pleco, please help ID

Well, 6 now, its a story how I got them all. I will be letting go of a few because I am SURE this is killing my bioload. Also I am upgrading to a 90 once the stand gets built. I had a clown pleco, and I was battling some algae, clown plecos are pretty worthless at that and the point I never...

    New Pleco, please help ID

HE must be a little happier. This little guy pooped more in 1 night than the albino common did in a week (he was also 13" long) and I could see the white but its gotten a darker green. Boy oh boy I forgot how much they poop! I got 5 juvie bristlenoses as well, but they are still so little you...

    New Pleco, please help ID

Thanks, I had a very big common albino when I got my 55, he was rehomed. I leaned towards that at first but the pattern just doesn't look the same. I am guessing since he is in bad shape his color is off? If it is a rhino, will the horns grow back? Most pics I am looking it show the top fin...

    New Pleco, please help ID

How can you tell he is in bad shape? Sorry I am only 8 months into the hobby. The owner of this tank just up and left it with their roommate. Friends of friends knew it when I caught wind I took it up. Would have really liked to have the angelfish though but it died just yesterday.

    New Pleco, please help ID

I took in a 10 gallon tank, I was told it only had an angelfish and I wanted it for my 55. But the angel died and when I got the tank it also had a pleco. It is about 4-5 inchs long. I don't figure this is some rare expensive pleco so I thought most of you guys could easily ID it.

What kind of Angelfish do I have?

I only have 1. I think its a male, but looking at other tanks and pictures of Angelfish mine looks a lot different. I mean the mouth is the most obvious. The mouth of most Angelfish I see are very pointed and stick out quite a bit. See example: Now, I would also like to pinpoint the type. I...

    Tank for a Flowerhorn...

This stuff doesn't bother me, my wife likes them and I told her about it. If she wants it she will spend her own money on it. Personally though, $160 on any fish is way more than I would ever think about. I know of much better things I could spend $160 on instead of a fish that I would risk...

    Tank for a Flowerhorn...

Yeah, I have seen some of these people following these things....One sold this year just like that one at a fish store for $400!!!! this one is $160....I tend to look at youtube but never trust it, there are a lot of people with really over stocked tanks on there, and me being fairly new I would...

    Tank for a Flowerhorn...

I found a real nice flowerhorn from a local Fish club member for sale. He is about 4" right now and had a pretty good price on it. I have a 55 that will be empty soon, would this be to small? It currently has a gravel bottom, but would be switched for sand. The tank is currently a...

Help with lowering and removing Diatoms

I tossed the plants, and soaked the other 2 pieces with vinegar in a 90 that was full of algae and used for saltwater (read to use white distilled to help remove the salt content) But the other 2 pieces are still covered lightly but they are not being used anymore. So no bleach, I did try some...
