I have had two freshwater aquariums for several years, one 29 gallon with a HOB Fluval C4 filter and 38 gallon with two Fluval C3 filters. The 29 gallon "sprung a leak" ... and rather than try to repair it, I put the all the fish in the from the 29 gallon into the 38 gallon tank ... and put the...
My understanding is that 150 watts should do and the submersible is best.
I found this one and would like any comments or suggestions.
Orlushy Submersible Aquarium Heater with Adjust Knob Thermostat, 2 Suction Cups and Free Thermometer...
It appears the new life spectrum freshwater formula flakes are no longer available. I tried the New Life Spectrum OPTIMUM all purpose flakes and am not particularly happy with it.
I was thinking of going with Ken's flakes which I read somewhere on here before were good.
Any other...
I bought a 38 gallon Aqueon tank and hood about five years ago at Petland. I use colorful "silk" type artificial plants and have a nice array of colorful fish, mostly tetras including long fin red minors, neons, and "featuring" pink, yellow and blue Glo-Tetra (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi).
So I am...
I'd like to gradually switch out the factory C-Nodes in the bio media trays in my two Fluval C3's on my 38 gallon tank for ceramic media. The C-Nodes tend to "dissolve" over time and the pores tend to clog.
Specifically, I'd like to use the Fluval Bio Max Ceramic Rings (made for cannisters)...
In my 29 gallon community tank (see profile) I noticed all these "little bugs" ..... and thought ..... how did I get these parasities ???? NO ... baby Kribensis. Not sure where they put the eggs to avoid losing them to gravel vacuum ...... driftwood or fake plants?
Pic of proud parents and...
I've got two C3's on my 38 gallon and a C4 on my 29 gallon. The factory pads are fine and do give you crystal clear water, but (in addition to being more costly), I find that I get much better results when it comes to polishing the water for that "uber clear" look when I do custom "cut to fit"...
I have to use $1 a gallon bottled spring water due to exceptionally poor quality of tap so keeping nitrates down is difficult albeit manageable.
I had never even heard of an algae scrubber to control this problem until today. Essentially by forcing algae to grow densely in close quarters...
While switching out fliters (goodbye Aqua-Tech 30-60 - Hello Fluval C3 & AquaClear 50 working sided by side), I noticed a very obvious design flaw in the AquaClear. After seeing post #20 by ole scratch which mentions the bypass issue like it is a known problem...
I want to put a new Fluval C4 on my 29 gallon tank. I have 4 inches from the back of the tank to the wall. According to this chart
Comparison Chart for Aquarium Hang-On Power*Filters - Fish | Pet Care Corner by PetSolutions - PetSolutions Blog
I need 3 and 3/4 inches. However that chart also...
I found the product available through Amazon:
Amazon.com: Hagen A1502 Fluval Lab Series Nitrate Remover, 150-Gram, 5.3-Ounce: Pet Supplies
and was wondering if anyone with an aquaclear or a Fluval C series (or other) HOB has used this with any luck. It gets mostly positive but some negative...
I put a C3 on my 29 gallon on August 26. To date, my water has been pristine ... crysal clear ... and polished.
Then yesterday (September 26) ... boom ... the little red warning indicator pops up telling me the Poly/Fiber pad is clogged/clogging and needs service. I have a foam pre-filter so...
I took a minute to admire the healthy, happy, vibrant fish in the crystal clear polished water of my 38 gallon this morning and I saw something unusual I had never noticed. A female metallic blue wagtail (platy) appears to have some sort of what looks like rotting tail fin ... but with no sign...
This is a warning to others and a request for a suggested replacement. Complaints like mine are commonplace.
In my opinion, the Fluval C series has to be most over rated piece of junk on the market. Mine sounds like a small diesel engine.
On my 29 gallon, the rattling noise + water splashing...
I would like some help putting reasonably priced driftwood and rocks into my newly established 29 gallon. Prices at Petco, Petland, Petsmart et al for a 9inch piece plus of driftwood or rock are so absurd.
I would like to order something online ......... since like Amazon is under 50% price on...
OK .......... the 37 gallon tank is fully stocked but I still want more fish for my "addiction." I just cleaned up an old 29 gallon and put in 8 gallons of our very poor quality tap water which contains chorine but fortunately not cholarmine.
The tank actually holds 28 gallons after gravel etc...
I would appreciate any advice that you may have regarding my tank. I decided to ask before I have problems. After dealing with blackbush algae (now cured thanks to this forum) and being stupid enough to put neons in with goldfish ….. which of course disappeared, please provide me with any adice...
I just moved here from Kansas City three years ago and have a 38 gallon goldfish tank with a pleco in it (I know I should be mixing them!). In the past, I have had tropical fish tanks (including breeding tanks) since age 12 and I am 64 now.
I found this forum when looking for advice about new...
