    DIY above tank filter

Anyone ever built one? I have a few fish tanks and I've always wanted to make some DIY filters (and a DIY HOB protein skimmer - but that's for later). This is what I'm trying to mimic: Apparently these type of set ups are pretty common in Asia. I really like this concept. It's pretty easy to...

    Picked up a 3' 30 gallon - help identifying

Hey guys, I got my hands on a 3 foot 30 gallon, the dimensions are 36 1/4" wide, 12.5" deep, and 16 3/4" tall. The glass thickness is about 3/16". This is a rather abnormal tank size so I cannot find much about it. I'm wondering if this tank is an AGA 30 gallon, or maybe some sort of terrarium...

3ppm Chloramines in tap + high ammonia reading in tank

Yeah, I've accepted that I'm gonna need a RO/DI system. I've been trying to find out if I actually need reverse osmosis or if de-ionization would be enough to remove chlorine/chloramine/ammonia?

3ppm Chloramines in tap + high ammonia reading in tank

So my tap water has 3ppm average of chloramine in it, according to my county's water report. Using the API test kit on my tap water without treating it reads about 3ppm ammonia. I do treat with Prime, but afaik the ammonia will only be bound for 24-48 hours by Prime. I'm not crazy about...

Got a liquid test kit everything is off

High range test pH, is a different pH test solution, to test for higher pH values. If your pH is around 7.6, then you'd want to test w/ the high range solution. The liquid kits don't have a solution for alkalinity, so ignore that. Your tap water comes up on the regular pH test as a very...

Got a liquid test kit everything is off

I wouldn't do anything drastic to try to raise your pH. The change would kill them. Do you have any driftwood in your tank? That can lower your pH especially if you have a lot. Buy a bag of crushed coral and put it in your tank, it'll slowly raise your pH. Test the pH and kH (alkalinity) of...

    Decisions decisions...

You could probably do a male map turtle in that tank for a while. They're good swimmers and would eventually need a larger tank.

Getting back into aquariums! How overstocked am I?

Hey everyone, so I work at a LFS, and am lucky to have co-workers who are very passionate about fish keeping, so alongside my own research, I've learned quite a bit, and decided to get back into aquariums. I haven't had an aquarium in 8+ years, but man when I was a kid did I do things wrong...
