    Black Algae Spots or Eggs?

Hey guys, Just checked out my tank this morning, and found these black spots? Before I remove the driftwood and give the tank a clean, I just wanted to make sure that it is indeed algae/fungus and not eggs. Fish in tank: - German Blue Ram - Electric Blue Balloon Ram - Bolivian Ram - Golden...

    Dwarf Gourami?

I've noticed this too. My electric blue ram which I've had for 7+ months was very aggressive to his smaller friend when I bought them - the smaller of the two died shortly after. I just picked up a GBR (I decided to get a nice docile one from the LFS as there was one very aggressive one), and...

    Dwarf Gourami?

I've read stories of Rams and Gourami not getting along to well; particularly with Gourami showing aggression towards the Rams. I'll say the Rams aren't the easiest fish to keep, but they are easy enough once the become accustomed to your tank. I currently have an electric blue Ram, a blue Ram...

I'd say the loaches are more weird than anything - they never stop looking for food! haha - The bristlenose haven't come out too much, we've got a brown and a darker brown one.

Bristlenose Catfish/Bristlenose Pleco indeed :) I believe catfish is just another name for them, I'm aware that they are pleco.

We've got these at my LFS as well! :) Picked up a couple of a new tank mates today! Two Yoyo Loach: Two Brittlenose Cat Fish: They're definitely the hardest fish I've had to take photos of! :)

Yeah, we've got that around 26 degrees celcius, they seem to be coming along nicelt :) We've currently got a guppy who should go into labour soon - more fry soon!

    TheNewKids' Tank Journey

I'm just planning on bumping it from 26 to 28. We typically do the water changes by hand (testing the temp that is) but try to get it as close to possible - well aware of 'shocking' them with cold water :) - we just do medium temp from the tap and de-chlorinate before adding. So would bumping...

    TheNewKids' Tank Journey

Anyone got any ideas temperature wise? We've put the tank up to 26 degrees, will the guppies and platies fair well in a 28 degree tank? Our heater only goes up by 2s -.-

    TheNewKids' Tank Journey

For those interested, we've yet to find any more dead fry against the filter, so hopefully the more frequent water changes of late have corrected that issue! We went past the LFS today and picked up some Hikari First Bites, they seem to like it. Also picked up: 2 x electric blue ram 4 x...

They definitely, we just haven't had the time of late to keep up with daily water changes and what not. I believe the tank is beginning to cycle - we've lost around 6 fry which we found dead against the filter. All the adults are alive and well they seem to be happily breeding!

Thanks for following - feels like I'm talking to myself sometimes haha; you guys definitely keep me motivated to keep updating the journal. Haha, she'd definitely be tired - I know she started popping them out around 4AM, and by 4:50 or so she'd only had 5 or 6 - so, I'd imagine that her labour...

The mother continued to give birth last night, and we woke to around 30 fry!

    TheNewKids' Tank Journey

We're in the process of a birth!! So it took us around two hours to catch our pregnant platy, and just before we caught her from the 20g tank, I noticed a flickering and all the adult platies chase after something - a fry! We managed to catch her; and place her in the breeding tank; where she...

    Api freshwater master kit

Depends upon the test, typically five minutes; sometimes less, sometimes a little more. For instance, the PH test involves inverting the tube a few times, then virtually instantaneous results. Ammonia however, requires the use of ammonia 1 and 2, shaking for five seconds, then five minutes for...

    TheNewKids' Tank Journey

Today's Update: We picked up a breeder box today; which we'll probably use tonight because our sunset platy looks like she's pretty close to going into labour; we can see a clear tube just below her anal opening; as well as a dark gravid spot. She still looks relatively active though, pecking...

No worries. That's a good ratio - we're at 5f and 2m at the moment. Did another PWC on the large tank today, ammonia was at 0.25 - so did a 30% change on it, all the adult platies seem quite happy; only a little aggressive behaviour today. They took well to the cucumber, and we just fed them...

:) We didn't get to trade him in, we had to bring him back for free on our end and purchase a new platy :ermm: Anyways, within five minutes of placing the new platy in the tank he seems to have mated with an orange female platy - we'll upload the video soon! We fed the adults some cucumber...

    TheNewKids' Tank Journey

Our little mickey platy is no more - that is we returned him to the LFS. Everything seems to be fine now, and we just picked up a new male platy which seems to be much calmer and happier in the tank!

Today's Update Just got home from uni, 9 hours of pain :/ - fry seem to be doing well, no more active than yesterday but they look healthy - they're still not really venturing out of their plants just yet. The adult platies are all alive, however, I've noticed that the mickey and orange platy...

    TheNewKids' Tank Journey

This is a pretty simple indication of what is male and female: Apparently if you don't have at a minimum a 2f to 1m ratio, the male can continuously attack and eventually kill the female he is targeting. They still haven't worked out meal time, hopefully they will soon - I hope they're...

    TheNewKids' Tank Journey

So I've got an issue with that orange platy and the male mickey - she's continually attacked him and he now has a small dint on his neck near his gills, but isn't bleeding. He swims awkwardly, often contorting his body at times, and is different to other fish when attacked. When other platies...
