    Algae covering plants

My tank is an open top, I had a glass top but it quickly became covered in white. Should I try to clean the glass and put that back on? And is a DIY co2 better than dosing with excel since I always forget? Plants have been In there 4 months. And also, what test kits and macro/micros do you...

Nitrates 20 Ph 7.6 All of my plants and decorations (amazon sword, java fern, etc.) Are covered in a green hair algae or something like that. They are completely covered and some leaves are...

why do my mollies always die??

Im sure you could get a way better explanation. But kh is carbonate hardness, the higher kh means pH wont fluctuate as much, gh is general hardness. Which is how hard your water is. Mollies prefer higher kh and gh

    Brown Algae taking over tank!

Yeah I have mollies and they were acting all lethargic and my pH was having huge swings. Kh was 0 and gh was 2 so I hardened up the water and they are good now lol

    SeaChem Prime

It is just a water conditioner. So add it to your untreated tap water and then add it to your tank. Dont add untreated water to tank. And you should be good

    Brown Algae taking over tank!

My 20g cycled tank is now completely covered in brown, rust colored stuff. When I vaccuum gravel it wont come off... its covering my glass and plants too. I have mollies who nibble on it. But every day its getting worse. I have 4 plants. Nitrates are 20ppm and pH is 8. I use flourish excel...

    SeaChem Prime

Yeah... I dont think it actually does remove ammonia. When I was cycling I used it and the next day ammonia would be reading the same level... fishy fishy

    cycling issue

No need to start over either, the pH will fluctuate in a cycling tank its normal. Ph up i heard should be avoided. You should take a test tube, fill it with your tap water, leave it uncovered, and in the morning check your pH and compare it to your tank. 6.8 might be your normal pH. Its only...

    cycling issue

Id probably do a 25% water change and dont dose anymore ammonia. This happened to me... if you are using a liquid test kit, it is very hard to distinguish between 4ppm and 8ppm (I use API). If you added more than 4ppm then it would take longer to cycle. When this happened to me It was going from...

    Low light plants, 0.7w

I had a 15w on my 20g high tank... and my amazon swords did fine. They didnt grow per say, but they did establish huge roots that sprawled across my tank. then I upgraded to 48w and bam they took off like crazy haha. Also, I just got brazilian pennywort and its growing like crazy, and heard its...

    SeaChem Prime

It actually removes ammonia (debatable but bottle states this), chlorine, and chloramines. It detoxifies both nitrates and nitrites for up to two days.

    API Master test kit

Yeah, usually it the ammonia, and nitrates wont change much after five minutes... ive left them in the tubes over night, and all ive noticed was the pH ones get a little off colored and the ammonia turns a very pale orange. Just remember for nitrates, you need to shake the second bottle for 30...

why do my mollies always die??

Yeahhhh... Ive had 3 black mollies and a swordtail in my 20. For about 2 months. Then 2 weeks ago one of the mollies had a curved tail and was swimming funny, and the whole tail was a pale blue! Needless to say... I just came home and the poor fish was dead. Either internal parasites or ph...

    Cycling without pure ammonia?

I tried that and fish food method and it just made a huge mess and didnt bring up my ammonia level enough to start the process. I did ammonia drops (enough for 4ppm) and it cycled in two weeks! I used Dr. Tims aquatics, its on Amazon. But if you do get it their directions are wrong you need to...
