    Show off your Betta(s)!

I think I posted on here previously, but I just wanted to show the crazy color changing that has been going on with my betta! I got him at the end of December. Here are the picks: (and yes this is the same fish) :P

You might be an aquarium nerd if...

+1 or your heart hurts when you see all the sad looking bettas crammed into super tiny jars at the LFS, and you think they're the "inmates of the fish world." Then you plan numerous ways to rescue as many as possible!! :D

    Interbreeding shrimp questions

And by saw a molt, I mean the process - not merely finding the leftover molts laying around.

    Interbreeding shrimp questions

Also, yeah interbreeding of coloured shrimp of any sort does produce only brown shrimp.

    Let's see your shrimp!

+1 I thought so too. When molting they sort of lay on their side and look sort of dead, then they swim awkwardly away and leave a shrimp sized white husk behind. :P I only ever saw a molt up close once and it was super weird. Anyway, here's a pick or two!

    Mollies in a reef tank

You can certainly keep mollies in a reef. Go with the black or Dalmatian mollies though, those are the easiest to acclimate. As for the process, drip acclimate them very very slowly in a dark(ish) room. Some sources will say that total acclimation can be achieved in 8hrs. Others say two weeks...

    Saltwater or fresh

@sharktale, I used to struggle with plants too. :) then I used ADA aqua soil, LED lighting and didn't dose anything ever, my plants never stop growing, in fact I get annoyed by how much pruning I do. :P plus pruning is easier than fragging some species of coral! Anyway, fresh and salt are both...

    Shed's 650 gal tank

If you've mastered the moorish idol, I'm afraid the next hardest task for you would be marine fish breeding :)

    Shed's 650 gal tank

Hey wow congrats :D that's amazing!

    Saltwater or fresh

This question is my favourite ever! Because...both ;) :D hence my username! I have both and adore both equally.

    Shed's 650 gal tank

650gallons?! Am I hearing you right?! That's huge! And exciting. And I'm a teeny tiny bit jealous. Anyway, have you kept triggerfish/puffers/eels previously? Those aren't really a challenge but fun, and intriguing to feed. Any type of butterfly fish (ornate, threadfin, raccoon, copperband etc)...

    Help! missinformation by LFS!?

If you live close to your local fish store, why don't you take the snowflake back and leave him there temporarily while your cycle finishes? I mean, to me that seems like the most rational thing to do.

    water quality

RO or Reverse Osmosis water is the product of forcing water through a semi-permeable membrane which ONLY water can flow through and expeling the water that cannot pass through. DI or De-Ionised water has been passed through a bed of special resin which absorbs the Ions that the RO membrane...

    water quality

New plants, new fish, anything second hand like sand, gravel, filters or heaters. Bacteria can literally come from the places you'd least expect, too. I didn't hear anyone mention TDS (total dissolved solids) that are found in water. Normally it's not an issue if you're using RODI water...

    Advice and opinions needed

Oops, I didn't see you have responded so quick :) Sure yeah, that'd be fine. Just make sure that your tank is cycled before you put anyone in. Unless you decide to go with a fish-in cycle, you could use the Goldie as your initial ammonia source.

    Advice and opinions needed

Two other options are blood fin tetras and White Cloud Mountain minnows. Both gorgeous fish that are hardy and don't require much maintence. Please know that bettas are not cold water fish, and do require tropical temperatures to be comfortable and to be active, happy and live long. :) I also...

    Advice and opinions needed

Cold water fish are awesome :) I don't think they get enough credit in the aquarium world! In a 10 gallon however, you're choices are a tad but limited. Goldfish are a definite possibility (just keep in mind the issue of overstocking which is easy to do with goldies.)

How to Visually balance stock in tank?

Yeah, I understand the whole detail orientated mindset :) Just my opinion, whenever I think of the aesthetics of fish in a tank, I first think of the plants/rocks/any hard scape that will serve as the base on which you must build...then match your stock to best compliment it. I've seen so...

Should I buy this flowerhorn cichlid ?? Petsmart is basicaly giving it away

If you have time and money to invest, go ahead and save him from the ignorance that IS petsmart. It's a seriously great deal, but only go for it if you're willing to provide him with a spacious home, good food and well maintained water quality. It'll be lots of work and money in the long run...

    Sponge?

Ps. Scroll down about halfway through the page in that link I sent you. There are two yellow sponges, but the first one looks the most similar to yours.

    Sponge?

+1 with regards to it being reef safe :) and it would be better not to move it, if possible. It's a gorgeous sponge, treasure it! From the looks of it, it may be what researchers are calling the "Picasso sponge" due to it's odd but beautiful shape. It's actually an unknown variety, according...

    Citron goby

Yeah, he looks a little rough :( can you give a little more info, maybe? What exactly are your water parameters? Is he a new addition? If so, how long did you acclimate him? What other things are in there with him? :) sorry to badger, but these are important things to know before I go around...
