How do I lower nitrates? I do water changes and recheck but they keep reading 60 to 80 ppm. I am 0 on ammonia and nitrates just cant get nitrates to go down. I have a 20 gallon tank with approximately 30 pounds of live rock and 20 pounds of live sand. I run a penguin 350 and a skimmer also.

Thanks. And no corals until I regime the star in my 90 gallon when I set it up. Have to get a sump and rodi unit before I get it going. Then going to make my 20 gallon and my 20 xtra high into coral tanks. Will be a while for that though

Does anyone use a newer emperor 400 and if so.. is it loud like some of the reviews say?

My bubble tip anemone keeps closing in on itself. Is this because its feeding or is something wrong with it?

I am not going to mix them. I will mix the pfs with some live sand.

I have 55 pounds of live rock split up in 2 20 gallon tanks. I will probably move that into my 90 along with 30 or 40 pounds of dry rock. Is the bacteria on the live rock same as what lives in the sand?

How much sand would I need? And could I mix dry sand with live sand?

Is crushed coral a decent substrate for my 90 gallon tank? I had about 100 pounds of it that came with the tank and don't want it to go to waste. Will the bacteria that lives in live sand inhabit crushed coral also?
