It's a cute little tank, it came with a bunch of aquarium stuff but I'm thinking it was left in the persons garage where they accidentally spilled something and didn't want to deal with it.

Of course unscented and pure. I may give this try if I hint any smell of that fluid. Thanks for all your help :)

The spill is on the inside. What kind of bleach are we talking about? For instance, Clorox? If so, do I need to mix it with water or just pour some in? I will disregard the fish soap because I've heard too many fright stories so I don't want to go that route

Wouldn't bleach make it worst considering its not recommended? And I probably wouldn't be able smell that oily fluid since vinegar would camouflage the smell even if there was any trace of the fluid left.

Any other advices?

I wiped down the excess spill and filled the tank with white vinegar. Until then, please provide helpful answers based on question. Thanks!

It's like a small 5 gallon long. It is a fish tank but it's not like strong acrylic. I figured liquids would melt through "plastic" or something unless glass that's why I mentioned what it's made of.

Blue rams can be aggressive but I think it depends on the tankmates. Careful on the dwarf gourami. I have a sunburst gourami and he usually goes after my blue ram and balloon molly. I would acrylic is harder than plastic and this tank feels a bit flimsy so my guess is plastic. Spill is inside the tank, but worth a try if anyone does have an idea

If males do not have red on the belly, then mine is possibly a male or could it be a very faded red color on the tummy due to possible stress and no companion?

Lol I trust you. Your username says it all. So if I go to find a male, I'm looking for short fins and a pure black spot (no blue dots) on the side? I heard its hard to sex them when they are young, so would I be able to sex them even when they are young or the characteristics just may not show?

So far I've received one reliable opinion on sexing my blue ram. Any more breeders or fishkeepers with experience on sexing blue rams?

Also not to mention my fish had some front spikes of dorsal fin torn so it's hard to make an exact determination. I think I have a pretty good idea. Thanks a lot!

IMO I would add the gourami first into your tank and wait a few weeks before adding a blue ram. I think it's better so the ram doesn't get territorial if you add a gourami after. You should try getting a male and female blue ram. How long have you had your tank running? How many gallons?
