Using apps to help manage aquariums?

I feel like I am a perpetual beginner in this hobby, even though I've been in it a few years. Does anyone use any apps to manage tracking all the details involved in this hobby? I'm sure this sounds silly to some of you, but I am REALLY bad with details and I think some of the...

Will a Python work on this faucet? (PIC)

Oh good. I've never used a Python before because I was lucky in the positioning of my tank in my old house.

Will a Python work on this faucet? (PIC)

It's the house we're moving into next week and I already left for the day. I'll look tomorrow. I'll probably order the adapter anyway if it doesn't come with. Thanks, folks.

    Sand ruining HOB filters?

No. Good idea. Next time I'll do that.

    Sand ruining HOB filters?

Not usually. I just walk by and notice that one has stopped working.

    Sand ruining HOB filters?

Hi all. I've gone through several HOB filters on my 55. I use Aqueon and Aquaclear filters - one of each and both rated for a 55 gallon. So presumably that's double what's needed, filtration-wise. I do use aquarium sand in my tank. I thought it settled well before turning my filters back...

Big, weekly water changes. Good idea or not?

Despite the occasional snarky back and forth, I actually enjoyed this thread and learned a lot. I am not a newbie any more, but feel like I will forever be a beginner. I never realized how important it was to keep the TDS from building up or changing too drastically. I frequently did extra...

    Stocking

I've read that Pygmy Cories are best in that size tank. You might want consider those.

    No Nitrites whilist cycling

I agree, you're probably cycled. Sounds like your 2nd round BBs developed between your water chemistry checks. Very cool!

    Starting over with Cories

I had no idea blasting sand was available in anything but off-white. How do your plants do in it?

    Starting over with Cories

I don't know yet. My testing kit got packed with my aquarium and nothing will be here until Tuesday. In the meantime, while the kids are in school I am checking out all the great aquarium supply stores within driving distance! I'll post the parameters once I can check them. Thank you!

    Starting over with Cories

Hi all. We just moved several states and I had to break down my 55 gallon tank completely. Gave away the fish and trashed the plants (no one was interested in them). So once my furniture arrives in a week or so I'll start over. In my previous set- up, I didn't really have a focus. This...

    Keeping plants alive OUTSIDE aquarium

Swordplants like the above. Thanks for replying. Maybe I can come up with a solution. I do have a 20 gal. I can take in my car (as opposed to to having the movers take it when they take the big tank and our other household goods.). I can fill it with declorinated water and a pinch of fish...

    Keeping plants alive OUTSIDE aquarium

Hi. We're moving several states away and I had to break down my 55 gal for the move. I am giving away the fish, saving the wood in a big plastic bag, and just trashing the substrate. All the plants ($$$) are too expensive to just toss and I don't have anyone to give them to. I will be...

    Reviving a Community Tank

Thanks for the replies, folks. :) Goldfish Loach Boy and Coursair are right! They are Opaline Gourami. One is a three-spot and one a marble. The three-spot is pretty small: Not a great pic. I'll work on that. The marbled one is four times his size. Here's a pic of both of them for...

    Reviving a Community Tank

Hey all. After a long illness during which I was unable to do much keep my community tank going, I am finally better and hoping to restore it to a thriving community tank once again. Facts: 55 gallon community, black sand, half planted/half wood. Current occupants: (2) dwarf 3-spot gouramis...

Is 8.0 too high a pH?

After removing the terracotta my pH decreased from 8.2 to 7.6 within two days! Wow!

Is 8.0 too high a pH?

Thanks for responding! While I did rinse the pots, I did not soak them. I also broke them into pieces to make tunnels and various hiding places. Perhaps breaking them and therefore having the insides exposed could have done it?

Is 8.0 too high a pH?

I just occurred to me - I put some new, unglazed, terracotta pots in the tank at the same time I added the two pieces of driftwood (all a month and a half or so ago). Research on the internet gives me different answers a out the terracotta affecting the pH. A few sites mentioned those pots...

Is 8.0 too high a pH?

I do use the API Master Kit. Something just occurred to me, a few days before the first ammonia spike I added 2 of the three large pieces of driftwood from the excellent LFS near me. All Mopani. I know this can raise pH, but this much so quickly?
