    New Aqueon 20G

Don't get otos until the tank is mature, at least 6 months. They are very sensitive and will starve in a new setup. Cory cats are great and if you get pygmies you can get a nice small shoal of them, at least 5 of them.

    Black brush alge

Tank parameters are: temp ~77, gH 120, kH 60, pH 7.5, nitrite 0, nitrate 20. I don't have a tester for phosphates yet.

    Black brush alge

Is that right about the 3 mL's/gal peroxide? That works out to 165 mL's (5.5 oz.) per treatment. That seems like a lot. I'm running the light for about 8.5 hours/day. I'm using Flourish twice weekly. Tank parameters are

    Black brush alge

Thank you. Do you have to re-treat on a schedule? I'll go turn off the filters now.

    Black brush alge

Can I use an alge killer in my planted tank. The link about it a couple posts down just goes to a dieting page. The black brushes just came out in the last week. At this point it's only on my amazon sword leaves. Thanks for the advice.

Getting started - sand & wood question

I also wouldn't get tiger barbs with angels. The tigers tend to be very nippy.

Get some more corys. They like to be in groups of 5 or more.

    Overstocked?

    That sounds overstocked to me.
  9. MoxieIV

Nitrate levels low :( and other leves need opinions on :)

Also, going by what you have listed on your profile page your tank is extremely overstocked. The goldfish are also cool water fish unlike the rest and they have a very high bio load.

    Dead metae cory

Today I came home to a dead Cory. It was looking more pale than the others last night & was staying isolated from the others. It looked like it had a bruise on its right side. Today, after dying, this it what it looks like: Does this look familiar to anyone? The tank is 55 gal...

New 29g, looking for stocking suggestions.

In my old 29 I had 12 neons, 5 bronze corys, 5 bandit corys and a pair of koi angels. I never had problems with water chemistry as I double filter and had the tank planted. They schooled well and were very happy.

    Cory I.D.

This is a little Cory that I have in my tank. It appears to be a bronze, but it has a sword tail. Is this just a varietal?

Neons getting stuck to filter inlet

I think I'm going to dig out my air filter. Good idea, thanks.

Neons getting stuck to filter inlet

I was thinking that, except that they could still get stuck against the mesh. Maybe they need a pep talk.

Neons getting stuck to filter inlet

Have young, small neons and every few days I find one sucked up against the inlet. I have saved a couple & for a couple it has been too late. Any way I can prevent this from happening. They're just not strong enough to get away.

    Sick koi angels.

Tonight I came home and another of the angels had died. No marks or any outward signs of anything. This one was sucked up against the filter inlet. When I had left the house 5 hours prior all had seemed ok. I'm still leaving the lights off & am increasing the temperature. They are all smallish...

    Sick koi angels.

Thanks for the advice. I have turned the lights off and the temp up. It will probably take at least 24 hours for the temp to get to 80*. How long is a while? Is it until I see the fish relax? I haven't lost any since that first one & the rest of the tank is acting naturally including the angels.

    Sick koi angels.

This is what the clamped fin angels look like. The ammonia level was at 0.5- 1 ppm prior to the 25% weather change.

    Sick koi angels.

Have a long established community tank that is in good shape as far as nitrates, Ph. I have a 55 gal. tank that is planted. Last week I added 6 young koi angels from a month long quarantine. That we're doing fine, eating well, etc. Last night I noticed one down on the bottom on its side. I...
