    Lighting

Hi all, I've been doing some research on lighting for my Fluval Edge 23L and still at a loss. A recent purchase of some rubble has turned up a small colony of zoa and a mushroom. So now I need to think about my lighting some more. Currently I have the stock led lights. About 5w I believe. No...

    pH crash

Well, just by leaving the lid off, I have managed to raise pH to 7.8 - 8. Must be the gas exchange as advised. Cheers. Sent from my XT1021 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    pH crash

Cheers. Seems to stay at 7.6 whatever time I test at. And 7.6 is the lowest reading on my kit (red sea). I just hope it isn't much lower. Sent from my XT1021 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    pH crash

Kh at 12 should be OK though? Maybe a calcium buff needed? Having said that, its a fluval edge so totally covered. This could be it! I'll be looking to mod the lid when I can afford to upgrade lighting. Sent from my XT1021 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    pH crash

I'm hoping to add a hectors goby in the near future, if that makes a difference. Obviously acclimatising would take longer. Sent from my XT1021 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Low ph..driftwood?

Is the driftwood the only change? Sounds like that is the cause. 6.4 isn't too bad (ok, the quick swing isn't the most ideal) but it depends on what you are keeping I guess. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice assuming the app didn't crash.

    pH crash

I'm fresh out of ideas guys. Today's test.... Ph: 7:6 Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 0.5 Alkalinity: 12 (4.3 meq/l) Salinity: 1.024 I am now a peppermint shrimp less :( and ph won't budge. Anyone else had a similar problem shifting ph? Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice assuming...

Yes. I have been testing store water. That's how I know its fine :p Sent from my XT1021 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    pH crash

I'll have to check that later. Odd thing is I use shop water where parameters are fine, so there has to be something with my set up that is causing it to crash. Ill give the baking soda a go, but I'd rather understand the problem for the long term. Any ideas? Sent from my XT1021 using...

    pH crash

8pm. But I've checked at various stages over last few days. Is a fluctuation from 8.2 to 7.6 normal? Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice assuming the app didn't crash.

    pH crash

I've got a 23L edge set up, live rock, a peppermint shrimp and a couple of Halloween Hermits. Recently I've noticed the pH drop from around 8-8.2 down to 7.6. No ill effects on the inhabitants but I can't understand the crash. Water I buy is 8.2 and the hob filter provides the oxygenation...

    My java moss keeps dying!!!!!

I've found that flow plays a big part on Java moss. Not enough and it starts to die. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice assuming the app didn't crash.

    Camescu's Edge Reef

The weirdest thing happened. I have 2 Halloween hermits in the edge now. Last night I came to see them and one of them had been murdered , and chopped up. So I moved the adjacent shells to remove the corpse. Within a minute, both shells scuttled away. Could one shell have been housing 2...

Thanks Matty. It sounds like you are a getting results anyway with a par38, so maybe I am overthinking the spectrum thing. My curiosity would like to bottom out the spectrum issue though haha. Yeah. Hopefully someone in the know will shout up. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice...

I suppose I could fit a par38 bulb into a standard desk lamp and point it at the tank? Obviously would need to make sure connection size matched. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice assuming the app didn't crash.

Yeah. I've been on the look out. Ideally something that I can mod and fit into the hood of a Fluval edge. But over her there is little talk of par ratings that I can find. Perhaps internet purchasing is the way forward. Par bulbs are way different from LEDs yeah? Sent from my iPhone using...

    Camescu's Edge Reef

I've been doing some research around light spectrum and zoas/mushrooms. If I'm not mistaken I'm looking for some blue spectrum at circa 450nm. I plan on keeping just softies so can anyone recommend nano lighting units for this purpose. Something on the Limey side of the pond would be...

    Pico

Oh dear. I can kinda see where No Hope is coming from (wait wait). The forums do seem to have a lot of advise passed on from people who are clearly regurgitating info they read (I've been guilty of the myself from time to time. And it can be frustrating. But But I think No Hope has been well...

    Camescu's Edge Reef

Testing update Ammonia trace amounts and nitrates are high. I assume water changes are the way to go to reduce those though. Could do with raising pH a bit. It's coming in at 7.6 Whilst waiting for the cycle to complete, I'm researching lights and wavelength for softies. Sent from my...
