50g tall tank - Flowerhorn cichlid or Oscar?

32'' tall and 18'' wide. It's a column type of aquarium. Thanks. I thought so, but wanted to confirm. Any thoughts on stock for a tank like that?

50g tall tank - Flowerhorn cichlid or Oscar?

After moving my tropical community to a 75g standard tank, I have an empty 50g tall. It is 32'' tall by 18" wide and 18'' deep. I wanted to get one, centerpiece fish for the tank and was thinking of a Flowerhorn cichlid or an Oscar. Are those tank dimensions suitable for either fish?

    Goldfish missing scales.

Thanks. I'll do ~50% WCs for the next couple weeks and then see how she does. I have an AC110 and an Eheim 2217, so the filtration should be able to keep up with the waste under normal circumstances, but I don't want to take any chances until I see her healing.

    Goldfish missing scales.

I recently put 4 fancies in a fully-cycled 55g tank. 3 ranchus - 2 females, 1 male. 1 telescope. They've been in there 1 day and one of them has already laid eggs. The male has been chasing the females relentlessly and one of the females appears to be missing scales on one side. There is a...

    Platy fry

One of my red wag platies was pregnant about a month ago and then one day, she wasn't. I didn't see any fry and didn't want to worry about extra fish - so I thought it would just be a feast for everyone in the tank. A week ago, I was doing a thorough gravel vac (removing decorations) and when...

50g tall, inherited from my late Uncle.

Thanks - Iove the Gourami too - he seems so peaceful and graceful. He can be quite an a-hole though. I think he bullied my Dwarf Gourami to death. But he sure is beautiful.

Nitrate problem in tap water - questions about a reverse osmosis point-of-use system

I got the RO filter and it solved my nitrate problem, but have a question about water changes. The RO filter is running cold water through it, so the temp of the water for changes has been much colder than the tank temp and I'm worried about stressing the fish out with these water changes...

    Aggressive Gold Gourami

Sadly, my Dwarf ended up close to death the next day and was laying on his side in the hospital tank, barely breathing. I didn't have anything to put him down, but he was clearly suffering and the only way to end it was to flush him. I'd heard freezing was worse, so I figured that the stress...

55g Fancy Goldfish Tank - Filtration Questions

I should have listened to NYgiantsRP. I ended up getting the U4s and the media capacity is basically nil plus the flow is way too strong in the wrong direction (right across the tank) - my poor Mystery snail gets his shell knocked around by it in the one tank and I'm sure it'll be too much for...

55g Fancy Goldfish Tank - Filtration Questions

I do have a circulation pump for water movement and a bubble wall that goes all the way down the back (minus where the intake for the Eheim is). I'm looking at a Fluval FX5 used on Craigslist, hoping the owner is willing to part with it for a decent price. He says a fraction of the original...

55g Fancy Goldfish Tank - Filtration Questions

I'm setting up a 55G fancy goldfish tank and initially bought the Rena Filstar XP-XL. I set it up the other day though and woke up to water coming through ceiling in my first floor (the 2nd is on the 2nd floor). I found that there's an air leak comign from the motor head enclosure. I took it...

    Aggressive Gold Gourami

Is it Dwarf Gourami Iridovirus? Is that really contagious to other types of fish?

    Aggressive Gold Gourami

Before I had a chance to do anything about this, I came home to the Dwarf stuck to my sponge filter. He was still alive, so I moved him to the hospital tank. He doesn't look good, but is moving. He is staying very close to the surface and breathing out small air bubbles every few seconds. His...

    Aggressive Gold Gourami

Thanks. I kind of figured that would be the case - but was hoping it wouldn't be the only option. The Gold does fine with the others, it is just the Dwarf that gets his wrath. I guess moving/returning is the only option.

    Aggressive Gold Gourami

Also - if I were to move one to another tank - would it be better to move the Gold or the Dwarf? And if I moved the Gold, would the Dwarf do on with other Dwarves?

    Aggressive Gold Gourami

I have a Gold Gourami and a Dwarf Gourami (both makes) along with other fish in a freshwater community 50g tall tank. The Gold is extremely aggressive towards the Dwarf - chasing him every time he comes out. The Dwarf spends most of his time hiding and isn't coming out much - even at feeding...

How long before new media grows beneficial bacteria?

I have a 50g tall, established tank with a Penguin 350 and an Aqueon 40 that have been in the tank since the start. I bought 4 media cages for the Penguin and put Seachem Matrix into two of them and left the two existing cartridges (stock Penguin carbon) in there until the Matrix builds up more...

Nitrate problem in tap water - questions about a reverse osmosis point-of-use system

Thanks. I will do some reading on Replenish, but just from a couple scans - it looks like it is exactly what I'd need. I also found the thread where you had the same issue! http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f24/re-mineralizing-ro-water-286750.html I would have never known my water was...

Nitrate problem in tap water - questions about a reverse osmosis point-of-use system

Thanks for the advice. It looks like RO Right is suggested to be used in conjunction with a pH buffer as well (Kent makes one). I've never had experience with Kent products, only used Seachem (Prime and Livebearer Salt). Is RO Right OK to use in freshwater tanks or only salt? It looks like...

Nitrate problem in tap water - questions about a reverse osmosis point-of-use system

Hi - I'm new to fishkeeping and have had my late uncle's tank in my home for almost 3 months now. My tank is a 50g tall, fairly well stocked, and it is fully cycled. I have noticed that my nitrates have been consistently high - but stable - between 60-80ppm (hard to gauge what shade of red the...

50g tall, inherited from my late Uncle.

Sadly, my Uncle recently passed (October) but I was lucky enough to inherit his 50g tall tank, stand, and his entire stock. He loved his tank and his fish. I went through a mini-cycle when I brought it from PA to MD, but that lasted only a couple weeks. Religious daily water testing & water...
