    Is a 'no CO2 added' 125 gallon planted tank with 2 or 3 80watt T5HO lights possible?

Still trying to decide what to do. Bit of a procrastinator, ya know. ;) Anyway, a couple more questions: - If I run the current tank as a low-light low-tech planted tank, and use a mag 9 as the return pump for the wet-dry, would I need any other filtration, such as a canister, or would it be...

    Is a 'no CO2 added' 125 gallon planted tank with 2 or 3 80watt T5HO lights possible?

Thanks for the reply. At least it looks like a viable option. I'm trying to read all the 'newbie' stuff regarding planted tanks, it's quite a hunt-n-click adventure! Substrate to use, depth of substrate, good plants for this type of setup, suppliments, etc, all stuff I need to figure out.

    Is a 'no CO2 added' 125 gallon planted tank with 2 or 3 80watt T5HO lights possible?

Due to money (or lack thereof), I'm considering converting my 125 gallon AGA reef to a freshwater tank, and am looking into what is possible with it. Options I'm considering are an African mbuna tank, an African hap/peacock tank, or a planted community tank. I know what it would take for the...

    20 Gallon Reef- updated 12/11/2007

Not in the least. Never lose that excitement at experiancing new things, not matter how trivial they may seem, and no matter how young or old you are. Getting excited like that is one of the great pleasures of life, so, yea, be excited! :)

Recommendations needed to paint back glass in a tank

Definately black. Really shows the colors of your tank's inhabitants. Of course, if you let coraline take over the back wall, it doesn't really matter. The black looks so good that I don't mind the work of keeping the back wall clean.

    $500 Lighting Budget. Pointers?

Devilishturtles is right, you don't need T5HO with single reflectors for a lot of coral. PC's are fine for softies and lps. If you think you mght want sps or clams in the future, maybe spend a little bit more now for T5 or MH, instead of a lot now and a lot later.

    $500 Lighting Budget. Pointers?

Definately, depending upon the T5's you get. You need individual reflectors. I built my own hood, using T5 retrofits from www.reefgeek.com but it was a bit more than $500. $670-ish for all the parts (bulbs, ballasts, endcaps, reflectors, etc, not the wood for the canopy, fans, etc). But I...

    30 gal reef tank...Sump question

15 gallon sump/fuge I made for my 29 gallon display... That was a year and a half ago, lots of chaeto and coraline now.

    Hair algae

Use ro/di water, a good skimmer, and a fuge. All will help remove the nutients are are feeding the algae. I'm going through a hair algae battle on my new (5 months) 125 gallon tank. Not unexpected. The algae has started to slowly diminish, I've just got to wait it out. If you want a fish to...

    Comments on my bioloads...

I agree, go a bit slower. Think about a sump/fuge for more water volume and nitrate export, and maybe a phosphate reactor for your phosphates. Those will help alot assuming you feed every day.

DIY closed loop circuit with Calfo-style return manifold ...

There are actually 10 output nozzles, each end has one, one of them doesn't really show up in the pictures. As far as output for each nozzle, you need to design the system based upon how much flow you want, and what type of pump you use. I'm using the Barracuda pump, which puts out 4500 gph...

DIY closed loop circuit with Calfo-style return manifold ...

There isn't really any splash from the closed loop, so that's not that big of a concern. T5HO lights are usually placed 4 to 6 inches over the water surface, so yeah, 'normal' splash is a concern. That's why I bought the waterproof endcaps, to help with that. Some people run them bare over...

DIY closed loop circuit with Calfo-style return manifold ...

Thanks, everyone. I had never done anything like this before, did a bunch of reading, and gave it a shot. I'm happy with the way it came out. The overflows came with the tank, it's a standard reef-ready All-Glass 125 gallon aquarium. If I ever do this again, I think I'll get a non-reef ready...
