Fluval 405 from saltwater to freshwater

Yup. Good suggestion. I already ordered new pads, like 2 kilos of Biomax and polishing pads. Hopefully that is enough. It was sold to me empty for $50 together with a 20' python gravel vac. Can I use the same method to clean the gravel vac? Would be cool to be able to use it. Sent from my...

Fluval 405 from saltwater to freshwater

Prefect. Thank you so much :) I'm an computer and systems engineer and I understand chemistry very well but wanted to make sure. The experience of the people on this forum in invaluable to me. :) I'll run it through a bucket next weekend. You think it'll be too much with this plus a...

Fluval 405 from saltwater to freshwater

Hi guys, I bought a Final 405 for 29 gallon freshwater planted tank. The person who I bought it from used it on a saltwater tank and it's been dry for about 6 months. He also have me a Python no spill gravel vacuum thing. Are these two things ok to use on my tank? Do I have to run it in a...

    Vacation for a month

Photos attached. I'm thinking of taking any fish out off the 8 gallon tank beside my main one. They are just minnows that cost 61¢ each. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Vacation for a month

Hi guys, I have a 29 gal tall with a Fluval C3, planted with pretty much 90% stocking. I'm going away for a month to visit family in Europe. I've left the tank for 2 weeks before and just left in that gel food that lasts two weeks. Many of my fish and shrimp eat algae as they are algae...

What Made You Want A Freshwater Aquarium?

As a serious business they probably have a big well stocked tank just to create precycled media for use in new tanks. Businesses like that would need to have this sort of resource. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

What Made You Want A Freshwater Aquarium?

They use pre-cycled media in those tanks by the way. It's pretty obvious as these guys are aquarium gurus and would know better. They also have the resources to do it. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Loaches vs Nerite snails?

I have two yoyo loaches with a year old nerite snail and he's safe so far but the loaches are only a few months old. I think it depends on your luck, but loaches love snails. Mine never attacked it so far. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

What Made You Want A Freshwater Aquarium?

The reason at the beginning was having a whole ecosystem of colorful things in my room. Equally important were the plants. The green in the tank and flow of the water are really relaxing. It also helped with dry air as a bonus. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

Carbon dioxide: bubbler vs liquid additive

Sounds like I'm going to just dose the liquid one. I don't have tanks big enough or the time to trim them that much. For lighting I find that the Marineland Hidden LED system does a really good job of supplementing the stock aquarium lighting. I also bought a Marineland Double Bright LED strip...

Carbon dioxide: bubbler vs liquid additive

I noticed that a tank that has CO2 has much better plant growth. I love planted tanks and have ever kept 4 so far. I have never had CO2 but I just bought liquid CO2 additive made by Excel. If I dose the recommended amount will it work the same way as a bubbler? A bubbler just dissolved CO2 in...

Is a Fluval 305 or 405 too much flow for a 29 gal tall?

Thank you. Yeah, I'm waiting for her reply. If not I'll pay a hundred. Hehe. I was worried about that. I can however easily pay car and house payments and have money left over though. I'm lucky to have a high paying job after years and years of school. Hopefully I can still push my computer...

Do I have an algae problem?

Mine looks the same. Something in your tank is eating the algae before it starts really growing big. That's beard algae and pretty much impossible top get rid of. I got 3 Siamese algae eaters and they are so much fun to watch. They don't let any of it grow but it still gets the spots on top of...

    Hang on back (HOB) Filters

Fluval C series or Aquaclear filters have easy to replace media, open media containers so you can use something else and they rarely break down. I also like these two because they are very quiet and inexpensive. The rating will depend on how stocked the tank will be. Remember to put a sponge...

Ich, One of my fish may have ich!

That sucks. My tank had ich in it too and by doing lots of water changes my fish are healthy enough to resist getting white spots (a healthy amount of slime on them is too thick for the parasite to get to the skin). New fish sometimes do get it. This is because my one and only local pet shop...

Question about planted vs not planted

That's true. Every couple of months I do a few water changes a week just to make sure the tank gets a refresh. Plus the weekly ones... I have a higher profile job so it can be a challenge sometimes to do water changes on time because work gets extremely demanding. I'm saving money for a house...

Question about planted vs not planted

Thank you. It took about a year to grow everything and I had to bring the plants from far away as choices here are sparse in both fish and plants. That's perfect as aqadvisor shows my tank at 120% with the 3 yoyo loaches I want to add in. I'm also switching the filter to a Fluval 305 or 405 in...

    10 gallon stocking

I used to have a few platy fry and their dad :), 6 neons, a tiny bristlenose pleco and two dwarf gouramis in mine. I also switched the lights for 2 of those wide spectrum, super bright Phillips spiral high efficiency bulbs. The plants help with filtration and oxygen. Obviously it was heavily...

    10 gallon stocking

It would be fine. You just need a filter rated for 20 gallons instead to keep you out of trouble. I used to have many more fish than that and heavily planted and I kept that 10 gallon for 2 years. All was good. Just do small water changes whenever you think you feel bored or you feel you have...
