Ram cichlids are cool and you’d still be able to have some other fish with a pair

Aqua mars led off eBay are 100$ each and you’d probably need two. Reviews are mixed but generally positive I’d look into them at least as an option.

Also could put an air stone or sponge filter near the dead spot if you’d prefer that.

There’s a screen around the motor but if you still think fry could fit through it pantyhose is a common solution to prevent other things also.

Look at the korelia brand ones they’re fairly cheap but pretty high quality. They should take up maybe an inch outside the aquarium.

I would recommend a small ish powerhead to fill in the dead spots to keep debris in the water column so that the hob can pick it up.

There’s this thing that kinda looks like either aptasia or some weird feather worm that pops out of a tiny hole in a shell of one of my snails. Any time I go near the snail it retracts super quickly back into the hole leading me to think it’s a feather worm type? Any thought would be great.

Fish ideas: Discus, clown loaches, Denison barbs bichirs all look great together. An African cichlids tank would look insane at that magnitude. Predator tank if that’s your style with some fish said above or South American cichlids and clown loaches.

I don’t see any reason against it as long as you don’t get any on inside and even then it could be ok but I just don’t know that. I spray painted mine black with I think that same type and it turned out great after 3 coats. It looks pretty cool and I bet the grey looks super cool

My guess is that the flow isn’t high enough for the filter to pick it all up and you don’t have a heavy bioload to start with so it just settling on the gravel but since you’re consistent with water changes and parameters are pretty good I think you should be fine. I’d keep testing for a little...

Lol mine gets gnarly but I have a much heavier bioload. Yours is fairly light but I would think it would be somewhat dirty. Do you clean the sand during water changes? Maybe the flow in the tank isn’t enough for it all to get sweeped up into the filter.

Others feel free to correct but I think as long as the convicts are big enough they should be fine. From what I think they swim mid to higher up on the tank so they should be out of reach and even if they were in reach they’d be big enough and strong enough to get away.
