    Cycle question

Hi everyone. I'm at the end of my fishless cycle and my ammonia and nitrites are dropping to 0 within about 30 hours now. With my nitrates around 80ppm or higher. I thought I would see an explosion of diatoms by now. Should I keep dosing until I see an outbreak? I originally was forced to put...

    Nitrates question

Ok, so I guess Im probably just being paranoid but everything is just off the charts right now and has been since yesterday. The pH went from 8.4 to 7.4 in 2 days also. I think I read that when nitrates are high, the pH will drop. Is this correct? Should I do anything about not being able to...

    Nitrates question

Hi and thank you! I dosed the tank before I went to work yesterday. Today its looking a little more like it should I think. Ammonia is slowly coming down since yesterday, nitrites and nitrates are high as they should be. pH is 8.4 still and temp is steady at 80. The other tank was a used tank...

    Nitrates question

Hi everyone! I had a little set back with my bowfront this past few weeks and had to completely trash the whole tank and stand and buy a brand new one. Of course this took me a few weeks to purchase so meanwhile, my brand new live sand and rock (some live, some dried out from an old system) had...

    Disaster struck! Help!!

Thanks! In the mean time, does anyone know if I'm doing the right things for the rock and sand? I figure I'll keep watching the parameters and do regular water changes when needed. As of right now I'm only seeing small amounts of ammonia but I'll of course keep checking.

    Disaster struck! Help!!

Hmm well I found the number and even the name of the guy the did the production on it. lol So I'm going to get a hold of my aunt and uncle, the original owners, and see if they remember where they got it and all the good stuff. Thanks for the tip!! I hope it pans out. I would feel much better...

    Disaster struck! Help!!

Oh man I couldn't imagine hauling 125 g out of the house in a hurry twice!!! AHH!!! Unfortunately for me, this tank is an older tank (about 10 years) which is why we resealed it from the get go. I wish i could just call and yell at someone to make this problem go away. lol That would...

    Disaster struck! Help!!

This would be the second time. But I think I may have found a glass company to reseal it. Working on that right now. The seal looked perfect so I dont know what happened. The tank has been set up with water testing it for 3 weeks while we collected things and tested the equipment. It had 80 lbs...

    Disaster struck! Help!!

Hi everyone. So I'm completely at a loss this morning. Last night our tanks bottom seam started to give way and we had to completely remove everything from the tank and put it into tubs. Thankfully its just live rock and sand and no inhabitants. Hadn't even started my cycle yet. So I guess I...

    Protein skimmer media

Yeah i suppose it needs something to skim before it really needs to be on. lol New question surrounding the skimmer. I got my sand in there today and its cloudy. Very very very cloudy. Ive read about this sand and i believe its pretty normal to be cloudy for up to a week. People are saying you...

    Reinforcing a 75g stand

After discussing this with my boyfriend, we decided to call our friend who used to be a carpenter and see if he would lend a hand. The bf is very paranoid about weight issues, so he wants to have the 45 angles in the back as well as the four corners and middle front and back. lol I guess better...

    Reinforcing a 75g stand

Thanks for the reply! After I didn't get a reply for a few days I started looking up the tank set a little more and realized it is in fact a 72 gallon. I was just using my best guess with what I had. :) As far as bracing goes, Im not sure how to go about it. Ive seen other people run supports...

    Reinforcing a 75g stand

Happy holidays everyone! Still working on leak testing but only just started and I'm wondering... would i need to reinforce this stand? It's a 75g bowfront. I'm planning on doing a sand bed around 3" and live rock. This is the tanks original stand and it's probably around 10 years old. Looks to...
