    Mystery fish

First off, sorry if this is in the wrong part of the forum! I work in a pet shop and we have a big aquatic section, we just took stock of a torpedo barb order and it turns out there are a few fish that have been added accidentally and we aren't sure of a couple of them. The first picture is...

A better tank for my betta.

I live in the UK so I dont have access to pecto, and its not for a shelf its to go on top of my chest of draws :)

A better tank for my betta.

Hello! I currently have a 3.3 gal Superfish Wave 15 with a betta in. I do love the tank, mostly only for its looks...but its just a bit of a hassle. It's currently sat under a shelf on top of my chest of draws next to my bed and out of any direct sunlight. Obviously I would like to upgrade the...

    Oily substance?

Brilliant! I'm glad to hear that it's normal and I will deffinately invest in something like this, perhaps even that one :).

    Oily substance?

I don't think we even have petsmarts in England...my favourite fish shop by far in Maidenhead Aquatics, second being the petshop I work in as I can influence the stock and their care :3.

    Oily substance?

I was reccomended a guy who breeds them through a friend, the guy also works in Maidenhead Aquatics. I went to his house and picked my lil guy up, compared to how most of the bettas in pet/aquatic shops are kept he was living in excellent conditions.

    Oily substance?

Mine is actually really good natured, apparently he was raised in a tank full of neons...he takes his pellet from my finger too :)

    Oily substance?

Yeah I thought that's what you meant! I considered panda corys as they are a smaller kind...I had a quick look at the pygmy corys but apparently they are more of a mid feeder than a bottom feeder.

    Oily substance?

He actually originally had a 7 gallon, but a bat and ball related incident resulted in a rushed, smaller tank as it was the biggest I could afford at the time. Saving up for a better tank but in the mean time I would just like to make his temporary home as comforatble as I can :). The temp tank...

    Oily substance?

I'll have a look for a tiny water pump, thanks for all your help :)

    Oily substance?

Yup the paper towel thing has to be done every other day right now. Oh also it's a heavily planted tank, the plants aren't contributing or anything (I wouldn't have thought they would be but you never know).

    Oily substance?

The borneos aren't based in there, they have come from my 60 gallon to help clean some algae growth. And just the surface agitation? There is loads, that's what's troubling me. All the water tests have come out fine too.

    Oily substance?

Hi, I have a 3.3 gal tank with a betta and two Borneo suckers. I started noticing an oily slick on the water surface and some one suggested that the water surface wasn't being moved enough. So I put in a temporary air stone and I have just bought a new filter (fluval u1). I got rid of the air...

    Betta's belly starting to swell??

I thought I should leave it, thank you :) and I put it in the dead spot of the tank and it's helping, although it looks like I'm going to be getting a new filter that's stronger than the one that came with the tank.

    Betta's belly starting to swell??

Guess who got to the algae wafer meant for my two Borneo suckers...! My goodness he has a belly on him now. I haven't fed him for 24 hours but I don't want to risk trying to feed him a pea as his belly looks full enough. I hide the algae wafers between the pieces of wood so that the lil rascal...

    Betta's eating habits!

The only things I can suggest is separating the fish into different tanks or to distract your betta while you feed your other fish. Have you tried the not feeding for 24 hours and then the pea feeding?

    Betta's eating habits!

I hand feed my betta two pellets (each pellet is around 1/3 of his eye and they expand a little when they are wet). I'm lucky enough that my lil guy will take food from my fingers.

    sick beta fish

I'm sorry to hear that :( and it could work...although I've never had experience with that technique. Perhaps use that if all else fails.

Awesome, I will pop down to the store tomorrow morning.

    Betta's belly starting to swell??

It's a super fish 50 that came with the tank. This is the first time it's happened....maybe my water levels are too high (the filter has a fixed place where it needs to be). Thanks for the advice.

    Betta's eating habits!

I would say that they are. A betta's stomach is smaller that his eye - this means over feeding can cause problems, the most common problem being constipation. Do not feed your whole tank for 24 hours (all the fish will be fine ;) don't worry) and after the 24 hours are up, feed your betta a tiny...

I am having the HARDEST time with helping my Betta. Please help!

Have you carried out any regular water changes?

    Betta help!

It sounds like your filter is too strong - did you get the correct size for the tank? In the meantime, I have always found that tank decor such as driftwood or rocks and plants give my betta places to hide or take shelter from whatever current the filter is making.
