What made you want a REEF aquarium?

So this is where I am at with my main tank, have some great fish and inverts, really love watching and feeding them. Have a second tank run off the first with safe soft corals, all ready for seahorses. Hoping this week to get my first pair. Will try to attach some pics.

    foxface

i have heard conflicting things about chromis- getting 5-7 means that they will keep picking off the smallest one, getting 8 or more that is less likely to happen. thoughts?

220 gallons is too small? my research says at least 135 gallons, it seems to be lots of space, I'm interested to hear from others who have these fish, thanks

    foxface

my foxface is the largest fish in my tank right now, i have 2 black clowns, 2 orange clowns, 2 bluedamsel fish and a royal gramma w inverts. he is a scaredy cat, when he comes out he is always flicking his spikes. i was thinking about adding a juvenile emperor angelfish next. do you think having...

    new tank

as i am building up the health and stock of my tank, i am getting a second tank started up next week for seahorses. 60 gallons, run off my current tank filter, with its own gentler powerheads. I found a source for tank bred seahorses in Toronto and hope to have them in the tank probably in the...

want to build a new tank for seahorses

So I am dreaming about a new tank for seahorses, I am starting to explore what all could be in there with them. Do people think that seahorses with some corals could live ok with some anemones and clown fish if the tank were big enough? Any suggestions for a size of tank and I understand that...

What made you want a REEF aquarium?

Many many years ago, I saw a tank in an aquarium somewhere that had seahorses in it and fell in love with the idea of a saltwater tank with seahorses til I started researching it and found out that most seahorses were wild caught and that they were a threatened species and many died during the...

    Tank stocking

i also heard that- they will pick on one fish til it dies, i dont want that. but everything and everyone says something different about how many to get. i am also thinking of a school of pyjama cardinalfish but have to figure out how many of them too. i knew this hobby was complex but had no...

    something from live rock

I noticed a critter that looked like a pink slug, almost like the bottom part of snails that you see with no shell. It climbed out of the live rock to a high point And started puffing out stuff- I presume eggs or gametes. I took a picture but it is hard to see, any ideas? I looked through the id...

    Tank stocking

I have a 220 gallon tank, have 2 clownfish, 2 black clownfish, 2 yellowtail blue damsels, 1 royal gramma and 1 Foxface rabbitfish. Plan to wait 4 weeks then introduce chromis, I understand that they school so 5-7 is ideal. My question is whether they have to be the same colour or whether they...

    Shrimp gobies with shrimp?

Do any of you have these paired in your tank? I have been looking into them but wondered how practical it would be, don't want to get critters that will not thrive. 220 gallon tank, inverts and just a few fish and cleaner shrimp right now. Thanks

    Feeding fish

the foxface is spending more time out and is eating the seaweed, the cleaner fish have moved off the powerhead into a cave together but i havent seen them clean anyone, i read that the clowns dont really stand for the cleaning, so maybe when i get some more bigger fish. I have a question re...

That's good to know- so far he hasn't eaten any of the seaweed that I have put out but I will keep trying.

    Clownfish

I do have a powerhead, it looked like a territorial display as it was only the one fish and intermittent, within hours of coming into the new tank. He isn't doing it now

    Clownfish

I saw another question about that and a couple people said their clowns did the same thing, but if they were eating it was probably ok. Mine haven't done that yet, though one of them is skimming the surface vigorously on occasion
