Going to Give Dwarf Gouramis Another Go

I had exactly the same problem with my gouramis, had 2 males that died within 6 weeks of each other due to a fungal type infection, i treated with api pimafix but lost both of them, none of my other fish were affected so i found it very strange, well worth another go with these lovely fish so i...

    Molly breeding

Yes they will breed together, all strains and colours of mollies will breed like rabbits so if you have mature females and males in your tank then you will have fry and they can be any combination in colour of the male and female

1 platy fry, 4 pregnant platy

This is normal for platys, they can take up to a week ( possibly longer ) to drop all their fry so dont worry about that, i only breed mollies but what i do is let her drop the fry in the main tank and transfer the fry to a breeder box, this makes the birthing process much less stressful and i...

Help in which filter would be best for baby guppies

Yes you could waste time and money by doing that but what would be the point ? Far better to keep things simple in my opinion so just chuck em in a breeder box till they grow up, job done

    Pregnant Platy!!! Help please!!!

I put my molly fry in the breeder box and they are fine in there, at a month old my local pet shop takes them off me, i have 35 in there now ! I do the same thing with every batch of new fry and never had a problem

Help in which filter would be best for baby guppies

Or you could just get a breeder box and pop them in there in the main tank till they are big enough, much simpler solution

Help in which filter would be best for baby guppies

Go for a small sponge type filter, it will do the job and is the safest for fry because they wont get sucked up into the filter

    Pregnant Platy!!! Help please!!!

Yes you would need a heater and a filter for a fry tank, are you planning to keep the fry or have you got someone to take them off your hands ?

    Pregnant Platy!!! Help please!!!

I dont use a breeder box either for the birthing process but i use one for housing the fry when they are born to keep them safe until they are big enough, its just a simple case of netting them and transferring them to the breeder box and they are perfectly happy in there

    Pregnant platy

Glad you had better luck with the breeder box, seems the way to go for your platy, i woke up to 35 molly fry yesterday born in the tank, have transferred them into the breeder box until my local pet shop takes them off me, she had 17 last time so expect more fry next time your platty mummy drops...

    Pregnant platy

If you can see fry and she is refusing food then she is very close, personally i dont like breeder boxes as they can add to the mothers stress levels but as you had no success last time with her giving birth in the tank then its well worth giving the breeder box a try so keep her in there and...

What is a hardy cheap and small fish?

Simply because a deep bodied fish produces more waste than a slim bodied fish so you could get away with more fish if you stick with slim bodied species, yes the inch per gallon rule is useless but a lot of fishkeepers stick to it religiously when there is absolutely no need to so i was just...

What is a hardy cheap and small fish?

Why is it great advice on having a school of one species ? I really don't understand that ! A bit of variety in the tank is much more interesting and the suggested danios and moutain minnows will be perfectly happy tank mates together

What is a hardy cheap and small fish?

You could do zebra danios in a 10 gallon ! Yes they do better in a bigger tank but you could get 4 of them with maybe 5 mountain minnows and they will be fine and both these species are virtually indestructible !!! If you do go for the danios make sure you have a closed lid set up as they are...

    Royal plec missing ?

Algae that forms on the wood will be his number one choice of food but you can supplement that with wafters and anything else that sinks, freeze dried bloodworm is another good choice, i love royals they are stunning fish, not got one myself as i only have a 60 gallon tank but if i ever upgraded...

    Pregnant Molly

I have a male and female molly in my tank and have had three batches of fry from her, i did get a breeding box but decided against using it for the birthing process, instead i use it for housing the fry and keeping them safe after they are born, each time she has given birth during the night and...

    Royal plec missing ?

Trust me he will not starve to death ! Like all living things he will have a natural instinct to eat ! If you are worried hes not getting enough drop an algae wafter in at night when the lights are off in the rough location of his hideout, he will be fine

    Did my fish just die?

Yes i have come across the powdered fish food which is for fry, i have used it for baby mollies, also guppys are not hardy in newish tank they do much better in established tanks, 3 months + and its not unheard of for guppys to die so soon after purchase, my son brought a pair of males a couple...

Any news on your molly laura ? Think mine is in the early stages of producing a second batch ! My local pet shop is taking the first lot of fry, try some floating plants and let yours give birth in the aquarium, the plants will provide cover for the fry to hide and the mother will have a stress...
