    Sick coral?

Well that makes me feel a little better lol. I moved the kenya tree coral away from the toadstools just in case it was causing any harm. How big do these toadstools usually get and how fast do they grow?

    Sick coral?

I wasn't sure the name of this coral so I looked it up and it seems like it's a toadstool leather coral? Does that look like that's what it is? Also, i read that they can go into a state of rest where they begin to shed? Is it possible that's what it's doing? I just noticed the stem is dark...

    Sick coral?

Hmm that's weird. We bought that piece of LR with all three corals attached to it and it was doing great at the LFS where we purchased it from. Did great at our house for the past 2 weeks as well, up until now. The CCS was in a reef tank at the LFS as well and the guy said that it would be fine...

    Sick coral?

I have had this coral for 2-3 weeks. 60g tank. We use a 4 bulb lighting system ( 2 sets of T5 and 1 set of LED ). When we first got the coral, it was doing awesome and thriving up until a few days ago. Now it barely opens and has some strange coloring on it and looks like something is wrong at...

    Help with ammonia an nitrate

We just bought a 60g tank a few weeks ago from someone that already had it established and we have had the same problems as well. When you moved the tank and stir up the sand, all the organic matter that has been sitting in the sand gets stirred up and causes a spike in nitrates and possibly...

Strange growth on my live rock

It's growing so I don't think it died LOL. But I thought it looked like a sponge that had some weird web growth on it haha. As long as it's not harmful and benefits the tank I'm totally fine with it. It looks pretty cool so see it growing. Thanks for all the advice and help everyone.

Strange growth on my live rock

Growth on live rock Our tank is cycled and no fish deaths. This sponge thing looks thick and also like it has webs all over it. How fast do sponges normally grow? From what everyone says they are good to have so I don't want to take it all out, I just don't want it taking over the whole live...

Strange growth on my live rock

Does anyone happen to know what type of sponge this might be? I've been searching the internet for any info and I can't find anything that looks like this sponge, if it is a sponge. My tank is also super high in nitrate right now. Tests showed as 8.0 in Ph, 0.25 for nitrite, and the ammonia is 0.

Strange growth on my live rock

Whew! What a relief. The snail was stuck to it and it died so I assumed it killed the snail. Is it a possibility the snail was sick before I added him to the tank? He only lived about 2 days. I'm new to having a salt water tank so I always have questions, especially when seeing new things in the...

Strange growth on my live rock

Strange growth on live rock The growth is right there by the butterfly fish. Can it harm anything in my tank? There was a cleaner snail attached to this growth and it looks like it died.

    Tank overheating!!

I have a T5 2bulb light system right now. I noticed when I open the glass top, the temp drops a little. I've also cooled the room down and noticed a difference as well. Hopefully it stays at the 78-79 it's been at recently. But I've also added frozen 1 gallon bottles of water to the sump tank so...

    Moon lighting suggestion?

I'm completely new to having a saltwater tank. Are you suppose to leave moon lights on all night or is there a period of time you should have no lights on at all? What lighting schedule do you guys have and what type of lights does everyone use? We are currently using T5 2 bulb lighting system...

Strange growth on my live rock

Hello, I purchased some live rock a few days ago. Yesterday I discovered I have tons of mini brittle stars, along with some type of transparent gray or white slime looking stuff.. Can anyone identify what this could be? Is it harmful or good and how do I get rid of it? My water perameters are...

    Tank overheating!!

Need some help or advice. Noticed that the temperature in my 60 gallon saltwater tank was going up to 80 degrees, then went up to 82.5... I unhooked the water heater and left it out overnight. During the middle of the night, the temperature jumped to 85 degrees. I turned some fans on and it went...
