    White cacoon looking pods

I don't know what these things are but I don't like it for two reasons. 1. It makes my tank look ugly. 2. I have a feeling they are no good. I have removed my pumps, and disassembled my HOB filter to clean these white cacoons off of everything. They also took over my sponge on my protein...

web-like stuff on my 'dead' rocks

It appeared to be fuzzy. It is gone now, and I don't know if anything came from it. During a water change they came off very easily when I was cleaning the rocks.

web-like stuff on my 'dead' rocks

Yup, all the white stuff...with the picture it is really hard to tell that looks web-like but it does, web-like is about the best description I can give it. So...encrusting sponge...cool! Thanks

web-like stuff on my 'dead' rocks

Got this web-like stuff that started showing on my dead rocks about 4 days ago. Noticed yesterday that it is spreading quite a bit on these rocks. My tank has a combination of LR & dead rock, LS and aragnite sand, no fishes yet. The tank just started cycling about a week ago...shortly after...

    Cycling...maybe something else?

I've noticed my on my dead rocks there has been this web-like stuff that is appearing. I noticed a very small amount on a few rocks about 3-4 days ago, and today it is on more rock, and in larger amounts...anybody know what this may be?

Thanks for the help. When you say feed, you mean just drop some flakes in there?

    Cycling...maybe something else?

I added about 10 lbs of reef rock, 15 lbs of base rock, and 10 lbs of lace rock. I added 20 lbs of aragalive sand, and 15 of regular aragonite fiji pink sand. Also to note...my salinity was on the rise I believe due to evaporation. I was keeping it at a steady 1.022, and I noticed Tuesday it had...

    Cycling

Yeah, its SW...I goofed when I posted here...once I realized what I did, I made an identical post in the SW section of the forum. Funny thing is, the only response I have gotten has been from you, in the FW section!

    Cycling...maybe something else?

Saturday I added dead rocks, and LR to my tank, then shortly added sand and LS. There is nothing else in the tank, only LR, dead rock, and LS. I have been testing for ammonia, everyday since Saturday and it has been 0 every day until today. Today I got the following readings. NH4: .25 NO2: .25...

    too much salt in tank??

partial water change using dechlorinated FW. What are you using to check the salinity? Hydrometers can be very inaccurate. I used two different brands of hydrometers, both give different readings. I ended up taking a sample to the LFS and just doing an avg. of about 5 hydrometers total them...

    Best Powerheads

Awesome I'm setting up a tank and need a couple PH...judging by the input in this thread I think I'll go for maxi-jet's. I have a 30 gal FW tank with marineland's penguin PH, I wanted the Maxi-jet's but my LFS does not carry the maxi-jet's only the penguin's.

    Recommend a protein skimmer

Can anybody recommend a protein skimmer for a 55 gallon SW tank? Right now using 1 inch live sand, live rock, no fishes in the tank. I have to Marineland 330 power filters on the back and 1 powerhead 550 for circulation. Thanks

    Salinity reading too high

Hey excellent Jermz79! I was looking on ebay these things range in price quite a bit, and I never know exactly what type I need. This seems to be a reasonable price, and knowing that others on aquariumadvice.com use it successfully gives me a bit more buying confidence.

    Salinity reading too high

I have two of the marineland 330 powered filter's, each filter has 2 filter cartridge's in it. They were the ones that Marineland made before the biowheel's (according to my LFS), so mine do not have the biowheels. You think this is enough mechanical, and chemical filtration?

    Salinity reading too high

Awesome information, thanks a bunch! Warm Regards, Brad P.S. What would you recommend to replace the UGF? I have thought about ditching it altogether. "Your New Marine Aquarium: Step by Step Guide to Setup and Stocking" is on it's way to my house...once it arrives I imagine I will get some...
